Golden Anniversary
celebrated by Gentrys
On Sunday, August 13, the
family of Orville and Allie
Gentry met at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Gentry, in
Heppner .Oregon to celebrate
their parents'
anniversary.
50th wedding
Reception held for
Rietmanns
The children of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Rietmann hosted
an afternoon reception on
Sunday, Sept. 10 at the lone
United Church of Christ in
honor of their parents' 25th
wedding anniversary.
The three-tiered white and
silver decorated 'cake was
served by Mrs. 'Victor Riet
mann of lone and Mrs. Dean
Rohde of Kennewick. Mrs. Bill
Rietmann of lone" poured
coffee and Mrs. Terry Thorn
berg of Hermiston was at the w
punch bowl. Terri Lee Thorn
berg was at the guest book.
The couple was presented a
money tree, organized by Mrs.
Louis Carlson, and covered
with gifts from many relatives

Prizes were given to the one
coming the longest distance,
which went to Virginia Burns,
travelling from Eagle River,
Alaska ; Earliest Graduate
went to Ruby Roberts, Edna
Wilcox and Mabel Denny, who
graduated in 1918; Those
married the longest both
from lone High School to
Mary and Edmund Bristow;
having the most children to
Frances Tester (eight); the
most grandchildren to Norma
Rea (18), and to the teacher
who taught the longest in lone,
George Tucker, who had 49
students present.
Everyone had such a good
time it was voted to hold
another reunion at the same
time in 1980. A member of
each class was appointed to

Mrs. Terry Thornberg and
Terri Lee of Hermiston; her
grandmother, Mrs. Mabel An
son of LaGrande ; her aunt and
uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Claude
Anson of LaGrande; Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Newell of San
Francisco; Mr. and Mrs. Dean
Rohde and family of Kenne
wick; and Mr and Mrs. Jim
Barnett of Pendleton.
Friends assisting in the
kitchen were Mrs. Don Peter
son, Mrs. Tad Miller, Mrs.

Bike
A 22 mile Bicycle Ride to
raise funds for St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital
in Memphis, Tenessee is
scheduled Sept. 23, from
Ruggs to lone City Park. The
Ride, sponsored by Beta
Omega, lone and Alpha Theta,
Heppner chapters of Esa
Women International, is part
of a national fund raising
campaign benefitting the Hos

To celebrate the achieve
ment of $2 million in their fund
raising efforts on behalf of the
Hospital, ESA will be offering
additional prizes as incentives
to riders this year, This year's
riders will earn t-shirts, back
packs, and nylon jackets
according to the amounts of
monies raised and turned in
by the event due date.
The Ride will begin at 10 1
a.m. in Ruggs whereupon the
