Family Fun ' Night at the 1978
Morrow County Fair promises to be
bigger and better than ever with
dinner, entertainment and dancing
highlighting the evening.
A fried chicken dinner with
trimmings will kick off the night's
activities being served from 5 to 7
p.m. Immediately following dinner
will be the crowning of Pioneer King
and Queen Mr. and Mrs. Adrain
Bechdolt. (Please see separate story
this section.)
At 7:15 p.m. the Annual Potato
Auction will get underway with Gary
Grieb selling Morrow County's best.
A limited number of potatoes are
available and interested buyers are
urged to bid without restraint for a
chance at a box of the prize tubers.
Proceeds from the auction will go
toward a covered exhibit building
for fruits and vegetables.
Headlining the evening's fun is the
Solid Gold Show featuring Michele
a top pop-country recording group
that will provide a family show
between 7:45 and 8:45 p.m.
Following the Solid Gold Show,
Michele and her troupe will provide
dance music from 9; midnight in the
arena in front of the grandstands.
All of these activities Saturday
night including dinner have a
price tag of just $2.50 per person
with tickets available at the gate.
Persons arriving for just the show
and the dance will be charged $1.50

Three action-packed rodeo
performances await specta
tors Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, August 25-27, when
the 1978 Morrow County Rodeo
gets underway.
Dropping RCA affiliation
this year because of costs, an
open rodeo with WRA appro
val has been scheduled for
Saturday and Sunday per
formances at 1:30 p.m. Head
ing the weekend's activities
will be the annual morrow
County Show Friday night at
7:30 p.m.
Friday night's show is
restricted to entrants from
Morrow County and it pro
mises to be a favorite as
always as contestants vie for
purses and prizes donated by
local businesses.
An addition to all rodeo
shows this year are races that
are sure to keep excitement
up. Included will be a 2-lap
cow pony race, 2-lap cowgirl
race, baton relay, pony ex
press and chariot races.
The races are being spon
sored by Cole's House of
Fashion, Les Schwab Tire
Center, Paul Hansen and
Columbia Basin Electric Co
operative, all of Heppner.
Top prize in the Friday night
show is the handmade Severe
Bros, saddle presented each
year to the winner of the
amateur calf roping event by
Kinzua Corporation.
Other prizes in addition to
purses presented by local
merchants include trophy
buckles presented by Herman
Green, Gardner's Men's Wear
and Morrow County Grain
Growers. Other trophies are
presented by Columbia Basin
Electric, Gardner's Men's
Wear, Peterson's Jewelers,
First National Bank, the
Orville Cutsforth Family and
Roemark's Men's Store of
Hermiston. .
Other activities on tap for
rodeo weekend include dances
in the pavilion Friday and
Saturday nights featuring the
music of the Jim Ackley Band.
Dancing starts at 9 p.m. and
the price of admission is just
$2.50 per person.
The Main Street Parade
sponsored each year by the
Heppner-Morrow County
Chamber of Commerce com
mences at 10 a.m. Saturday
morning.
The All Saints' Episcopal
Church is again sponsoring its
annual barbeque Saturday,
August 26 at 5 p.m. The event
is held on the Church lawn at
the corner of Church & Gale
streets in Heppner.
Rodeo-goers can get up
Sunday to the taste and aroma
of ham, hash browns, pan
cakes and eggs as the Wran
gler's Riding Club members
again don their chef hats for
the annual Cowboy Breakfast.
Served between 6 and 10 p.m.
at the Heppner City Park the
food is great and the price is
right.

Morrow County Rodeo.
