Mid the haze of heat and
dust, the dog days of August
have come too soon.
This August is different
from all the past Augusts here
in Kinzua. The sounds of
children's voices are almost
never heard and the heat-induced
pall found in most small
towns on late summer days
has been replaced by the
sound of hammers and wreck
ing bars, as house after house
is reduced to piles of boards
and heaps of rubble.
The sightseers lured to town
by the news stories have come

Rob and Scott Conlee, sons
of Steve and Roberta Conlee,
are both on the injury list.
Last Monday Rob broke his
foot. It was Thursday before
the swelling went down
enough to put the cast on it.
Saturday, Scott fell and struck
his chin on the edge of a step.
The resulting cut took four
stitches to close. Roberta's
sister and family, Loraine and
Floyd Wilson and children
from Umatilla were here this
weekend to visit and pick up
their son Lloyd who had been
visiting the Conlees this last
