Change noted in dance
entertainment
The Leonnig Family will not play at the Morrow County
Fair and Rodeo dances on Aug. 25-26 as previously
announced.
A spokesman for the rodeo committee said the Leonnig's
had been bonked to play both dances, but a review of the
budget by the fair board resulted in cancellation of the
contracts due to cost.

At its July Board meeting
the Morrow County Fair
Board took steps to help the
senior citizens of south Mor
row County and increase
use of Fair facilities.
The Board voted to allow the
Heppner Senior Citizen meal
site to be located in the dance
hall and middle kitchen of the
pavillion building on the
Morrow County Fair grounds.
The twice weekly meal site
will move to the Fair Grounds
sometime in September. The
location and added space will
allow the coordinators of the
program to provide more
activities at the meals and
make the site more of a Senior
Citizen center. The Heppner
meal site is currently held in
the Elks Lodge. The senior
citizen delegation present said
the Elks had been most
gracious to them, but they felt
they were imposing upon the
Elks' activities.
The senior citizens will rent
the Fair facilities two days a
week for the next two or three
years until they can build their
own center. The senior citi
zens groups expressed hopes
that as many as 100 senior
citizens would be attending
the meals. They felt that the
program was of real benefit to
all senior citizens in the area.
In other business the Fair
Board discussed plans for the
renovation of a metal storage
th niri poultry and
rabbit exhibit barn) into an
antique machinery museum.
Harold "Shorty" Peck is to
begin work on the museum
shortly. He hopes to have part
of it ready for viewing by fair
time.
Japanese teens set

Opens office
Local families in Sherman,
Wheeler, Gilliam, Umatilla,
and Morrow counties are
ready to welcome 14 Japanese
teenagers and their chaperone

The exchange students will
live with their Oregon families
for one month. They are

expected to participate in the
regular activities of each host
familv.
The 4-H Labo exchange
program started in Oregon in
1973. Each county has partici
pated in previous years. All of
the Japanese teenagers are
studying English in an after
school program which fea

out plays, etc.
The young Japanese and
their host families will have a
picnic Aug. 6 at Anson Wright
Park at 2 p.m. Those inter
ested are welcome to attend.

ment and has a renter referral service. Harris and his wife,

Lightning strikes barn,
sparks fire at Morgan
Lightning hit an old barn on
the Robert Heideman pro
perty near Morgan about
midnight Saturday. Due to
natural firebreaks in the form
of a road on each side of the
barn, and the quick arrival of
friends and neighbors, the fire
was quickly contained,
spreading only to some sagebrush.
