New events
included in
this year's
county fair
With the Morrow County Fair
going to a weekend schedule,
there are several new events
added to the 1978 program.
This year's schedule calls
for exhibits to come in on
Friday, August 18. Livestock,
fruits, vegetables and flowers
will be accpeted until noon on
Saturday, August 19.
While the judges are busy
selecting the best exhibits in
the numerous areas of the fair
on Saturday and Sunday,
fairgoers will be able to enjoy
such events as amateur horse
shoe pitching and tobacco
spitting on Saturday. 4-H
Action Alley will be going full
tilt all during the fair. Folks
can draw up a chair on the
dance hall stage and learn
how to do all sorts of
interesting things from 4-H
members and their leaders.
Saturday night's big Family
Fun Night will feature the
Jeris Ross Show and an
outdoor dance preceded by a
chicken dinner. Jeris Ross, of
Nashville fame, sings such
songs as "Brand New Key,"
"Moontan" and "I Know the
Feeling." During Saturday
night's festivities, Mr. and
Mrs. Adrian Becktoldt,
former Hardman residents,
will be crowned the pioneer
king and queen of the Morrow
County Fair and Rodeo.
Sunday is a day for kids of
all ages. The pet show gets
underway on the rodeo
grounds at 1 :30 p.m. Amateur
horseshow pitching will conti
nue and there will be a
demonstration of the old time
art of sack sewing. At 4 p.m.,
kids can dive into stacks of
sawdust to hunt for money.
Sunday evening, 4-H members
will participate in the 4-H
Favorite Foods contest and -parents
will attempt to show
livestock in what promises to
be a hilarious adult all-around
showmanship contest.
Monday night features the
4-H public style revue and
Tuesday night the 4-H and
FFA Livestock Auction.
Queen Donna and prin
cesses Kim and Lauire issue a
hearty invitation to all of
Morrow County and the rest of
Oregon to participate in an
old-time county fair at the 1978
Morrow County Fair.
