Morrow County's Babe Ruth

the past week, winning two
games and dropping one.
Last Thursday, Morrow
County trounced Johns Mans
ville ol Hermiston 17-9 in a
woodchopping spree that re
sulted in 13 hits. Johns
Mansville, cellar dweller of
the Babe Kuth league mus
tered only 4 hits against

The entire Morrow County

four baserunners in a game
that saw the Morrow County
team give up no errors.

ITS CHEAPER BIFCIli 8.
If you get up early and call
before 8 a.m.; you save money.
In fact this is the cheapest long
distance rate in the book.
It's a particularly good deal
when you figure 8 a.m. on the
west coast is 11 a.m. in New
York. Or 10 a.m. in St. Louis.
Actually, you get at least
twice as much talk for the same
money at 7:59 a.m. as you do
when you call at 8:00 a.m. But
be sure and dial direct, with
out operator assistance.
Winning pitcher Bob Bier
logged four strikeouts during
the contest. Craig Gutierrez
stepped in to relieve Bier
during the later innings, and
was credited with a save.
On Tuesday night, Morrow
County lost by three runs to
third place Inland Empire.
Henderson, the Hermiston
team's pitcher, held Morrow
County to five hits, while their
batters connected for base hits
eight times,, including two
home runs by Bob Frost.
Morrow County's Shawn
LaRue belted out a homer in
the early innings and team
mate Jeff Hams doubled.
Despite the score, Mofrow
County's defense had its
bright moments, including
another fine performance by
catcher Hams, who threw out
three baserunners. Opposing
baserunners have yet to steal
a base from Hams thus far
this season.
The regular Babe Ruth
season will come to an end
next week, after Morrow
County plays in Hermiston
tonight, returns to lone on
Tuesday, then plays its final
game in Hermiston on Thurs
day. After Tuesday's contest,
Morrow County stood at 10-3 in
the win-loss column, one-half
game ahead of second place
Tum-A-Lum.
Selections for the league's
All-Star team were scheduled
to be made on Friday.
