Tour Successful
If you haven't been out to
look at your county, this is a
great year to do it. It has been
many years since rangeland
and crops looked so beautiful,
offering the potential for a
bountiful harvest. In addition,
there are exciting develop
ments in all areas of the
county to be viewed.
Last week 35 men and
women toured developments
in north Morrow, including the
Carty coal fired plant now
under construction. They
viewed the reservoir there
which is about two-thirds full
at present; visited the Gour
met potato industry where
they saw french fries being
produced by the tons; other
industries and business in the
Port of Morrow; stopped at
Simtag Farms to hear about
the irrigated wheat and potato
crops, as well as viewing
housing and agricultural de
velopments from the bus.
Host for the morning tour
was Rupert Kennedy, mana
ger Port of Morrow, who
shared insights on progress of
various developments in the
port, as well as the growing
town of Boardman.
Bus Clough, PGE public
relations director, joined the
tour group at noon to share a
progress report on the Carty
site. The main plant structure
has risen to thirty two stories
in height since our last tour
there, and the smoke stack,
which will be twice that high,
is under construction, as well
as the steelwork which will
handle the coal. Since our last
tour, the railroad for bringing
the coal in has also been
completed.
The wide variety of crops
growing in the county was

Leader Cook-out
All leaders should have
received an invitation to the
Leaders' Steak Fry June 10.
The small print on the
invitation read RSVP, and we
really need to know the
number attending, as our
sponsor Columbia Basin needs
to know how many steaks to
furnish.
In addition to the recogni
tion for leaders, this will be
one of the opportunities to
meet our new 4-H and Live
stock agent, John Nordheim.
We hope all leaders will
attend.
