Junior -Senior Prom Court of
1978 at a surprise assembly
held at Heppner High School

Rhea, Janice Healy, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Healy,

the HHS senior class by vote of
the junior class. Michelle
Portman, junior class advisor,
said the choices were made on
basis of service to the school,
outstanding character and
characteristics defining the
"ideal student".

prove them at a' public
meeting scheduled for Tues
day, May 2, in Boardman.
The public meeting, which
will begin at 7:30 p.m. in
Riverside High School, will
provide an opportunity for
residents to express their
opinions of the problems,
trends and needs for natural
' resources in the county, ac
cording to Dick McElligott,
chairman of the Morrow Soil
Soroptimists celebrate 30th
anniversary, plan luncheon
Soroptimists International
of Heppner celebrated its
thirtieth anniversary Thurs
day, April 13, at their regular
luncheon meeting.
Plans were discussed for the
Senior Girls Luncheon which
will be held today, Thursday,
April 20, at the Episcopal
Parish Hall. Academic and
Vo-Tech Scholarships will be
presented at the luncheon.
Plans were also discussed for
the Regional Conference,
April 28, 29, and 30, at
Pasco-Kennewick.
Special guests for the anni
versary meeting were Mrs. Ila
Albert, who showed some
extremely interesting slides
and told the group of her visit
and Water Conservation Dis
trict. The meeting will be co-sponsored
by the Morrow SWCD
and the USDA Soil Conserva
tion Service. This opportunity
to help plan USDA programs
is a result of the Resources
Conservation Act which Presi
dent Carter signed into law
last November. The law
requires public participation
and involvement in setting
the needs and goals for soil
and water conservation.
The Resources Conserva
tion Act requires USDA to
appraise the natural resour
ces on all private land,
to the Holy Land, and member

demands. Also considered will
be changes in resource condi
tions because of past uses, the
costs and benefits of alterna
