parents of a baby girl born
Feb. 28. She has been named
Amelia Sue and joins two
brothers at home, Alex, Jr.
and Aaron.
Grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Bellamy of Mount
lake Terrace, Wash., and Mr.
and Mrs. Oral Wright of
Lexington. Great-grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
Woods, Wapato, Wash., and
great-grandmother Ava
Wright, Heppner.
Mrs. Kenneth Howard is a
patient at Pioneer Memorial
Hospital.

The second meeting of the
Blue Mountain Community
College upholstery class,
taught by Ella Ross, will be
held tonight (Thursday) in the
Lexington School building at 7
p.m. Tonight is the last night
to enroll in the class which
needs four more students to
continue.
Thursday from 7 p.m. to 10
p.m. at the Neighborhood
Center at 178 W. Willow Street
in Heppner. Aid for persons
who just want to improve such
basic skills as reading and
math is also available.

The Committee on Womens
Activities for the Lexington
Grange reorganized Monday
at the home of Barbara
Cutsforth. Officers elected
were Chairman Delpha Jones,
Vice Chairman Barbara Cuts
forth. and Secretary-Treasurer
Virginia Peck. The
group's meetings will be the
second Tuesday of each month
and every third meeting will
be an evening meeting.
Members are reminded of

high school diploma or a
General Equivalency Diploma
(GED) this spring, according
to Vicki Tollefson, director of
the local adult education
program.
"Students can start at any
time and progress at their own
rate," she said.

Rummage sale
Set April 25-27
April 25-27 are the dates and
the American Legion Hall is
the place for the Heppner
swim team's annual rummage
sale.
More rummage is still
needed for the sale and pick up
can be arranged by calling
676-5837 or 676-5871. The sale is
the major activity for raising
needed funds to operate the
swim team.
The sale will continue from
5-9 p.m. all three days.
Grand Deputy
to air PUD issue
The public is invited to a
meeting at the Willow Grange
Hall, Monday, April 10, at 7:30
p.m. The meeting will include
a speech by Ralph Fenton,
Eastern Oregon Grange Depu
ty, on the proposed amend
ment to the Oregon Planned
Unit Development Law, which
would simplify the process
establishing PUDs. Petitions
will be available to get the
proposal included on the
November ballot.
Fenton urges all subordi
nate Masters, Pomona Mas
ters and legislative committee
chairmen in particular to
attend the meeting.
VFW, Auxiliary
change meetings
The local chapter of the
VFW has changed its regular
meeting date from the second
Thursday of each month to the
second Tuesday of each
month.
The next meeting will be
Tuesday, April 11, beginning
at 8 p.m. in the Wagon Wheel
Cafe banquet room. 1
The VFW Ausillary will
meet Wednesday, April 12,
beginning at 8 p.m. in the
Columbia Basin conference
room Any eligible ladies

Bobbie Harris
receives
2nd
Commendation
Second Lieutenant Bobbie
D. Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Darrel Harris, Heppner, re
cently received his second
award of the U.S. Air Force
Commendation Medal at
Aviano Air Base in Italy.
Lt. Harris was cited for
meritous service as a Staff
Sergeant in Florida prior to
his commissioning in 1977
through Officer Training
School in Texas. He now
serves as an air intelligence
officer with a unit of the U.S.
Air Forces in Europe sta
tioned at the Aviano base.
A 1967 Heppner High Schol
graduate, Lt. Harris received
his B.A. degree in 1975 from
the University of Maryland
European Division at Fam
stein Air Base in Germany.
