County Court mulls
joint juvenile project
A public hearing was held
by the Morrow County Court
at its Irrigon office on
Wednesday, Feb. 22, on the
proposed increase of certain
fees for solid waste franchise
operators providing service to
areas outside the incorporated
city limits of the county.. No
one appeared for or against
the increase and it was
approved by the Court.
Another public hearing was
held on the same day to amend
the comprehensive plan of
Boardman to include an urban
growth area for the city. The
amendment was adopted with
no one appearing for or
against.
Don Burns, East Central
Oregon Association of Coun
ties (ECOAC) representative,
and Carolyn Holt, Morrow
County juvenile officer, dis
cussed with the Court a
' proposal for a grant for a joint
juvenile project between Mor
row and Umatilla Counties.
The grant application would
be for $20,000, two-thirds of
which would go for Umatilla
County and one-third to Mor
row County to provide a
juvenile counselor for the
Boardman and Irrigon areas
for two days a week. The
Court signed the application
for the project.
The court attended an in
formational luncheon meeting
on Feb. 22 pertaining to
operation of the Boardman
Medical Clinic. Boardman
Mayor Jerry Peck, architect
Gary Gunderson and attorney
Jim Remsen, representing
Cal-Fuhrman Development
Co., answered questions posed
by the approximately 35
persons who attended the
meeting. Raising additional
funds to purchase an X-ray
unit was also discussed.
Irrigon Mayor Vernon Stew
art met with the Court to
discuss the county-wide need
for dog control. The possibility
of obtaining funds for building
a dog shelter on land donated
in the Irrigon area was
j considered. It ws decided the
matter would be referred to
the next Inter-governmental
council meeting which has not
yet been scheduled.
