here Feb.
Pioneer Memorial Hospital
and the Oregon Lung Associa
tion will co-sponsor an Em
physema Self Care Patient
Workshop next week for
interested persons in the
Morrow County area.
Patients and their families
are invited to participate in
the workshop, scheduled for
three successive evenings,
Feb. 13-15. All sessions will
take place in the Heppner

Francis Rose
The Rev. Al Davis, Assis
tant Superintendent of Assem
bly of God Churches in
Oregon, will be in Irrigon,
Sun. Feb. 12, for an installa
tion service. The Rev. Davis
will officiate at the installation
of Rev. Allen Gordanier as
pastor of the Irrigon church.
Pastor and Mrs. Gordanier
and family moved to Irrigon in
November to serve the
church.
Sandra Britt of Spray, was
guest speaker at the Irrigon
Assembly of God on Feb. 5.
Miss Britt has been in Malawi,
Africa for a year, attending a
Bible school. She plans to
return to Malawi for another
one-year term of missionary
work in the "bush country".
She is with the MAP
program and will be working
with another lady missionary
who is on the field now.
Four area students
given academic honors
Shannon Kelly, Heppner, a
junior at Linfield College in
McMinnville, has been named
to the college's dean's list for
the fall semester.
A student must be in the top
10 per cent of the class to be
named to the dean's list.

Tammy Rock who competed
in the Oregon Jr. Miss Contest
as Miss Irrigon, reports that
she had a "wonderful unfor
gettable time".
Tammy said Miss Portland,
Cathy Benton, who won the
contest and title of Oregon Jr.
Miss, was a "really neat girl."
The contestants had a busy
fun filled week, staying at the
Ramada Inn at Tuallatin.
They went swimming and ice
skating, visited the Trojan
Nuclear plant and entertained
the children at the Shrine
Hospital with singing and a
comedy skit.
Tammy would like to en
courage other girls to compete
in this contest. She says it is a
good way to meet people and
make lasting friendships.
The contest was held at the
Beaverton Sunset School last
weekend.
Achieving honors for the fall
semester at Lane Community
College were Heppner stu
dents Jim Boyce, Carl Christ
man and Brian Sweeney. All
three earned a 3.0 or better
grade point average for the
term.

at the Heppner workshop.
There is no charge for the
workshop and registration is.

Memorial. Interested persons

Registration should be com
pleted as soon as possible
because space is limited.
Subjects to be covered at the
workshop include: structure
and function of the lung in
health and disease; treat
ment; use of oxygen; bron
chial hygiene; breathing exer
cises; ostural drainage; and
more.
A similar workshop will
repeated in Condon in March.

Friday, Feb. 17, at Mary Ann
Palmer's home in lone. Ge
neva Palmer will serve, as
co-hostess and members are
asked to bring a salad or
dessert.
Bert Corbin
home after
hand surgery
Bert Corbin of Heppner
returned home last week from
Kadlac Hospital in Richland,
Wash., where he underwent
extensive surgery on his left
hand.
Corbin, an excavation con
tractor, was repairing some
machinery on Wednesday,
Jan. 18, when his hand ws .
crushed by a backhoe bucket.
He is now convalescing at
home and it is not yet known
how much use of his injured
hand he will regain.

Wayne Bourries
honored at shower
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bourrie of Heppner were guests of
honor at a baby shower held at the Episcopal Parish Hall on
Friday, Jan. 27. They expect their first child to be born in
March. '
Hostesses for the occasion were Donna Ball, Cindy
Wright and Jackie Wright. About 15 friends and relatives
attended the shower.

Women interested in joining
a new VFW Auxiliary group in
the county are invited to
attend an organizational
meeting on Monday, Feb. 13,
in the Wagon Wheel banquet
room in Heppner at 7:30 p.m.
VFW Auxiliary membership
is open to women who are
close relatives of veterans of
service in the U.S. Armed
Forces authorized to receive a
campaign medal or ribbon for
overseas service. Member
ship is also open to women
veterans who have served in
foreign wars. Members must
be U.S. citizens at least 16
years of age.
The prime objective of the
Auxiliary is service to the
veteran and his family
through support of VFW
policy. The organization also
sponsors a wide range of
projects that promote com
munity and national interests,
as well as many social
activities.
