Weston-McEtven dumps 'Stangs
Heppner found themselves
in trouble from the start
against Weston-McEwen Fri
day and ended up losing to the
Columbia Basin Conference
eastern leaders by a 75-60
margin.
The Mustangs trailed by
nine after the opening period
and scored only 11 points in
the second quarter to all 16
points back at intermission.
"Our biggest problem was
lack of quickness," said Mus
tang coach Tom Day. "We just
didn't play up to our poten
tial." Both teams shot 40 per cent
from the floor but the Tiger
Scots got off 20 more attempts
than the Mustangs hitting 34
of 85 while Heppner connected
on 26 of 65 attempts. The
Mustangs picked up eight
points from the line on 18
attempts.
Heppner was only whistled
for 10 violations in the game,
two in the first half, which
limited Weston-McEwen's
output at the line to five points
in eight attempts. In the first
meeting of the two teams
early in the year, the Mus
tangs were tagged with 22
fouls.
