Arlington guns down lone 52-38
Arlington controlled the
boards and turned a 15-point
advantage at the free throw
line into the winning margin
as the Honkers shot down lone
52-38 Friday at lone.
With a height advantage at
every position, the Honkers
jumped to a 13-4 first quarter
lead from which the Cards
could never recover. Arling
ton pulled down 44 rebounds to
17 for lone.
"We just stood around in the
first half and didn't get the
good shots," said Card coach
Del LaRue. "The height
advantage was a big factor in
the game."
After the Cards settled down
in the second half, they were
able to stay with the Honkers
and were only outscored by
one point in the final two
periods. Both teams finished
the game with 19 field goals
with the Cards taking 58 shots
to Arlington's 48.
But at the line it was a
different story. The Honkers
picked up 15 points on 27
attempts while the Cards were
shut out on five trips to the
line.

Wheeler's 28 of

Cards again
The following night at Whee
ler, free throws again proved
to be the downfall of the Cards
as Wheeler hit an uncanny 28
of 34 foul shots to pave the way
to a 54-49 win over the Cards.
The Cards actually out

The spring turkey season is
limited to the taking of "torn"
or male birds only. It is timed
to coincide with the tail end of
the mating season. By this
time most hens are secretive
ly hidden away on nests but
the toms are still looking for
adventure.
Success in the spring hunt is
not high and nearly all of the
dinner fare goes to the hunter
who has learned to simulate
the call of a hen turkey. The
turkey is a wary bird and few
are taken by hunters who
simply wander the woods.

Down by seven points at the
half, the Cards used a zone
press to cut the margin and
they took the lead at 49-48
before Wheeler scored the
final five points of the game
for the win.
"We got back into the game
twice in the second half,"
LaRue said. "But the fouls
came back to hurt us."
At one point in the third
quarter, lone had three star
ters on the bench in foul
trouble and two of them
eventually fouled out of the
game.
Dennis Stefani poured in 20
points to lead the Cards and
Kevin McCabe scored nine.
Rick Gilbert pulled nine
rebounds while Robin LaRue
added seven.
"Both teams matched up
well size-wise," LaRue said.
