M ustangs blast Helix for sixth straight win The Mustangs took control after the opening quarter and ran their victory string to six straight by recording a 69-48 road win over Helix Saturday. Heppner shot 40 per cent from the floor in the game with both Sam Myers and Ken Grieb hitting double figures with 12 points. Dennis Peck and Bryan Marlin both had eight and Howard Huddleston scored seven. Dale Holland was the top rebounder with 10 followed by Grieb with 8 and Myers with 6. Heppner pulled 44 rebounds in the game to take a slight edge over Helix. After the opening period ended in a 15-15 tie, Heppner broke loose for an eight point margin at halftime and conti nued to widen the lead in the final two quarters. City league results A 27 point scoring barrage by Tom Day helped Summers brew past Galbraith 73-32 in the first game of this week's city league play. Tom Pointer and Gordon Meyers both added ten points while Mike (formerly Gary) Schwartz paced the losers with 22. In the second game, Clint Barber tossed in 10 points and both Dan Coiner and Wilford Jones added eight to lead Greenup past Van Marter 43- 32. LaVern Van Marter was high man for his team with 16. An overtime period was needed to decide the final game as Eckman pulled out a 44- 41 win over Watkins. Jim Lankford scored 14 points and Dave Eckman added seven for the winners while Duane Neiffer and Karmon Bjella paced Watkins with nine points each. City league will take a two week break before resuming play on Jan. 8. A schedule of games will appear in next week's paper.
