Carnival nets 9700
for Cardinal Club
A turnout of some 200 people
enabled the lone Cardinal
Club to collect more than $700
in proceeds from a Dec. 6
carnival held at the lone
Legion Hall.
Dorothy Zinter, chairman of
the club's Ways and Means
committee, said, "the whole
community supported the car
nival" and added that she was
pleased with both the number
of people attending and the
amount of money collected.
Mrs. Zinter said the pro
ceeds would go towards se
veral of the Cardinal Club's
annual projects including a
scholarship fund for a senior
at lone High School, the fall
reception for lone teachers
and the spring graduation
reception.
Carnival proceeds will also
help fill about 500 bags of
candy for the club's Dec. 22
Christmas program to be held
at the lone school beginning at
7:30 p.m.
The carnival was the first
staged by the Cardinal Club in
the past six years and Mrs.
Zinter said the bingo table and
game booths were among the
most popular attractions.
"The bingo table was full all
the time and all eight booths
almost ran out of prizes," she
said. The booths were con
structed by Marvin Peterson's
shop classes.
The door prize a turkey
donated by Bristow's Market
was won by Terry Morter.
Landes' friends host
farewell party
A drop-in farewell party for Bill and Mary Pat Lande will
be hosted by several friends and neighbors at the West of
Willow on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 6-8 p.m. Refreshments will
be served and all friends of the Landes are invited.
The family will move to Walla Walla shortly after
Christmas where Bill has accepted a position with the
Baker-Boyer National Bank.

lone Couple Wed
Helen McCabe and Sam Crawford, both of lone, were
united in marriage at 4 p.m. Nov. 26 at the lone United
Church of Christ with Rev. Bill Graham officiating. The vows
were taken in the presence of relatives of the couple.
Arleta George acted as Maid of Honor for her mother,
and Rollo Crawford was Best Man. Helen Pettyjohn sang,
"I Love You Truly" and "The Wedding Prayer",
accompanied by Gladys Drake on the piano.
Following the wedding a buffet lunch was held in the social
room with Marilyn Peck and Michelle Miller cutting the
cake, and Arleta George serving the punch. The couple left
for a week spent in San Francisco, Cal. ,
Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Crawford and
family of Burns, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Crawford of
Hermiston, Mr. and Mrs. Tad Miller and family of Heppner,
Mrs. Vern Crawford of Helix, Mr. and Mrs. Gary George and
family of Beaverton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Lexington Grange will meet for a Christmas social
and potluck on Monday, Dec. 19 in the grange hall at 6:30
p.m.

proud parents of a daughter,
Summer Jean, on Sunday,
Dec. 4, at 4:30 a.m. She was
born in Pendleton Community
Hospital, weighing in at 6
pounds, six ounces. Little
Summer joins brother Bran
don, 2, in the Rountree home.
Grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Rountree, Wasco,
Idaho; and Mr. and Mrs.
Oliver Freel, Adrian.
Great-grandparents include
Mrs. F.B. Rountree, Bend;
Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Kingery,
Elma, Washington; and Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Bicanei,
Caldwell, Idaho.

A wedding reception will be held for Mr. and Mrs. La
Verne VanMarter III on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 4-6 p.m., at
the Heppner Elks Club.

gan Lorraine, born Nov. 23.

ner, has spent the past three
weeks in Walla Walla, visiting
her grandchildren and caring
for her first great-grandchild.
Legion party Dec. 18
Heppner American Legion Post No. 87 and Auxiliary are
having their annual Christmas party Sunday, Dec. 18, at 3
p.m. at the Legion Hall.
There will be a snack table and films, and a visit from
Santa, who will have treats for the children.
