' TWELVE The Gazette-Times, Dorothy Heard, Director for Blue Mountain District No. 10, and her husband, Charles, were special quests for the November 9 meeting of the lone Garden Club held at the home of Helen Martin with Wilma Martin assisting. A potluck salad lunch preceded the program which was a discussion dealing with evalu ating the needs of our club led by the District Director. Joyce Buchanan was a guest. Members brought arrange ments made from dried ma terials and Helen Martin showed the group how to make contrived flowers from teasel and money plant. An ex change of dried materials was carried out by the members. A dried arrangement was pre sented to Dorothy Heard from the club. 0 Irrigon Fra nc is Rose Two local men suffered a harrowing experience in late October while fishing for crab in the waters of Cooks Inlet off the coast of Alaska. Gayl and Albert Phillips, brothers whose home is in Irrigon, were working aboard the 97 ft. fishing boat, Adven ture, on Monday, Oct. 24, when a severe storm came up and waves swamped the boat and sank it. The skipper of the boat and the two Phillips put off in a life raft and spent 2'2 hours in the sea with swells up to a Hospital Patients from Heppner ad mitted to and dismissed from Pioneer Memorial Hospital between Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 include Linda Connor, Delsie Palmer and Jerry Phillips, all of Heppner. Myrna Campbell, Condon and Jerrad Schmittle, Lexington, were also dismis sed. Still in the hospital as of Tuesday, Nov. 15, were Fran ces Miller of Heppner, George York, Condon, and Georgia Lynch, Heppner. The Morrow County Stork has been taking it a little easier recently, delivering Don Hardwick elected to Logging Congress Don Hardwick of Kinzua, owner and operator of Hard wick Logging, was elected to a three year term on the board of directors of the Pacific Logging Congress during the organization's meeting last week in Vancouver, British Columbia. Delta Huber reported that Loree Hubbard, Pat Pettyjohn .Helen Martin and herself had scattered seeds of hollyhock, calendula, poppies, dianthus, gloriosa daisies, sweet Williams and sunflowers along the road out of lone as a beginning for our roadside beautification pro gram. This project will conti nue during the year. Beck Eubanks and Laurie Mazahay of Beaverton spent several days last week visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Swanson, accompanied by Mrs. Irene Swanson of Heppner, spent the news Wilso n 922-3352 height of 30 feet. They were rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter as the craft was making its last circle run in the darkness of the of the shortening Alaska day. They called their mother, Mrs. Virginia Phillips of Irrigon, and flew home soon after. Having experienced enough adventure in fishing for the season, the men expect to remain in Irrigon and construct some homes on property they own on Division Street. Steven Jeremiah, the son of proud parents Mr. and Mrs. Steven Leroy Coley, Monu ment, was born on Wednes day, Nov. 9, at 2:18 a.m. He weighed in at 6 pounds 6V2 ounces. Little Steven is the fifth Coley child, joining brothers Wesley, age 7, Jason and J.W. age 5; and sister Heather, 3 years old. Grandparents are Maryetta Schultz, Prairie City; Homer Coley, Shawnee, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Bi Kern, Prairie City. The Pacific Logging Con gress covers Oregon, Wash ington, California, Idaho, northern Arizona, British Co lumbia and New Zealand. Membership includes some of the largest companies in the logging and lumber industry as well as independent loggers.
