over Mt. Vernon Friday.
The Cards never trailed as
they accumulated 393 total

seven of 12 passes for 131
yards in the game.
Gari Gaustad contributed
two more touchdowns on the

Mt. Vernon tested the Card
defense early, taking the
opening kickoff and mounting
a 12-play drive before lone dug
in to force an unsuccessful
field goal attempt from the 15.
The defense was again called
on when Stefani was inter
cepted on Ione's third offen

Nearing the end of last
year's long 2-7 season, lone
coach Gordon Meyers was
heard saying, "Just give me
two years with this team..."
It seems his wishful thinking
has been realized a year

team's 42-28 win over Mt.

remained unbeaten in three

"We're getting hold of our
