Chamber of Commerce
members showed that they
found our 4-H program much
to their liking!
We attended the north
Morrow 4-H Recruiting, A
wareness, and Recognition
night last Thursday, and found
the members had put together
a very delightful, informative
program to tell all about our
4-H program for the benefit of
those new in the community!

tion of each 4-H member and
leader, lovely docorations,
and a delicious familv Dot
luck! Super night! Kate
Evans, who just finished her
final year of 4-H served as
mistress of ceremonies, as her
last 4-h contribution before
leaving for college.
We walked down Main
Street, Heppner, and saw the
4-H windows, showing what is
happening in some of our
clubs!
We looked back over the
week, and thought, it was a
good 4-H week! We still feel
the glow!

be held Monday evening,
October 10, 8 p.m. at the
Lexington School Office. The

requested. New officers for
south Morrow will be elected
at the meeting, as well as
many other items of interest
to all leaders in the county,
including date and plans for
south Morrow Achievement
might.
4-H Supplies and Record
Books
We anticipate having 4-H
supplies on hand the end of
this week. ..for all leaders,
both those completing years,
and beginning.
Record books which are to
be submitted for consideration
of county medals should be
turned in at the Extension
Office by October 7.
Study Group Activities are
Underway

study group meetings have
kept local women busy the
past week. All study group
officers attended a two-county
officers training provided by
Molly Saul, this week in
Hermiston. Leader teachers
for the study topic "Living

Study group meetings will
be held in October, with Rhea
Creek study group meeting
the first Tuesday of the
month; Pine City the second
Wednesday; and Irrigon the
third Wednesday. All women,
or men, are welcome to attend
any study group meeting, with
membership not a require
ment. So any time you see a
topic that interests you, give
676-9642 a call, and we'll tell
you where you can attend the
nearest meeting.
Many special interest pro
grams are planned for the
year, in addition to the
monthly study topics. Winter
months will find varied pro
grams which will include
information on child abuse, a
growing national concern; a
Food Faire planned for Febru
ary; correspondence courses,
and a workshop on window
treatments.
There is always an informa
tive program in the making
with Extension. Feel welcome
at all!
Remember
4-H leaders are needed! We
have a very active year
planned for the 4-H program
in our county, with an early
training for new leaders listed
as one of our priorities. Get on
the 4-H bandwagon volun
teer to be a leader, and help us
allow Morrow county kids
"Room to Grow in 4-H".

Survey shows economic choices
Final summaries of the July
14 "Wages. Welfare or What"
Town Hull meeting showed
that by a 5-1 margin, Heppner
residents attending the meet-"
ing believe economic security
should depend on employment
rather than income mainten
ance. A somewhat contradictory
conclusion showed that 50 per
cent of those surveyed were
willing to pay higher taxes to
guarantee a minimum stan
dard of living.
The Heppner meeting was
one of 55 meetings held in 35
communities throughout the
state in which more than 3.000
people expressed their views

An updated fee schedule
was adopted Wednesday by
the court for the Morrow
County Planning Commission.
It covers comprehensive plan
or zoning map amendments,
conditional use and variance
requests, zoning permits, map
work, appeals and land parti
tions. The schedule reflects an
increase the amount depend
ing on the request over the
flat rate of $25 formerly
charged for most land use
hearings.
