Those present for the after noon were Leila Palmer, Leita Messenger, Hilda Yocom, Cat ie Padberg, Irene Padberg, and Delpha Jones. Co-hostess was Florence McMillan. An invitation was read from San Souci PNG Club for Apr. 5. Plans were made for a trip to Walla Walla where they will enjoy a luncheon and shopping spree. Door prize was won by Delpha Jones. Holly Rebekah Lodge met on Thursday evening for their regular meeting, followed by initiation. Those being initiat ed were Margaret Baker and Virginia Peck for Holly No. 139 and Elsa Searl for San Souci No. 33. The Chaplain's charge was given by Gladys VanWinkle, Vice Grand Caro lyn Howard, Past Noble Grand Maureen Davis and Noble Grand Delpha Jones. The tableaus were beauti fully done by members in pastel colored formals. There were five members from San Souci and 23 from Holly. Refreshments were served later in the dining room where the new members were wel comed. Mildred Rauch was hostess for a coffee hour and bridal shower honoring Debbie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Majeske, at the Majeske ranch on Saturday afternoon. Those present were her grand mothers, Mrs. Ferida Majes ke, Mrs. Ken Marshall, and others, Mrs. Ken Palmer, Mrs. Bud Marshall, Mrs. C.C. Jones, Mrs. Dan McBride, Mrs. Orville Matheny, Mrs. Stan Rauch, Mrs. Steve Hill, Pat Wright and Sandi, and the honoree's mother, Mrs. Gene Majeske. Lovely refreshments were served and the afternoon spent visiting with the bride-to-be, who was visiting from her home in Lincoln Beach, where she is employed at the Salishan Motor Lodge as a beauty operator. Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Mes senger and family from Bend, Gerry Messenger and son Gerry, and Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Messenger and family of Portland and Mr. Hazen and guest from Battleground, Wash., were weekend callers at the T.E. Messenger, Sr., home. Lexington Grange is making plans for a spaghetti supper and pinochle party at their hall on Mar. 26, starting at 6 p.m. Committee in charge is Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Cutsforth and Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Jones. Grange will meet for the regular meeting on Mar. 21, with a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Matt Doherty will be the speaker for the evening, tel ling the people about the Morrow County School bud get, special music and the flag drill by Holly Rebekah Lodge group. The public is invited to the program. Carolyn Howard is spending a few days this week with her aunt, Melba Fish, of Seattle. Mrs. Fish recently returned to her home after visiting here with the Howard family. She fell in her home last week, receiving several painful in juries and Mrs. Howard has gone to assist with her care. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bradd from Coos Bay and Mrs. Mike Kane from San Francisco are visiting at the Wm. J. Van Winkle home. Mrs. Kane is preparing to leave for Iran, Mar. 20, where her husband is employed. A Sunday visitor was the VanWinkles' son, Donald, from Pendleton. Fieldtrip cancelled Mar. 13 for Singspiration The March Singspiration service will be held at the United Methodist Church next Sunday evening, Mar. 13, be ginning at 7:30. Everyone is invited to come sing popular hymns and to enjoy visiting and getting better acquainted with mem bers of the community. After the song service ends, Methodist ladies will serve coffee, punch and cookies. These well-established monthly sings take place in different churches and are non-denominational. If you are a new resident, this is a good way to meet folks and to see the different church build ings. The usual attendance at Singspirations is one-hundred or more persons of all ages. There will not be an historical field trip to Portland on Mar. 19 because of lack of interest. Bill Weatherford, a director of the Morrow County His torical Society, reports that only six people were ready to Weedeaters organized Heppner has a new 4-H gardening club called the Weedeaters. The club had their organizational meeting recently and elected Renne Struthers president. Other officers are Thomas James, vice president, Jen nifer Hughes, secretary, Car olyn Hughes, refreshments, Ronnie Klaus, game chair man, Kenneth Curtis, pro gram chairman, and Ryan Van Cleave, reporter. go. Three others indicated that they could make the trip on a different date. One couple said the hours of travel were too long for them. Concert to be presented Debra Beard of Irrigon will be among the two dozen members of the Blue Moun tain Community College Or chestra and Wind Ensemble presenting public concerts in Hermiston Thursday night, Mar. 10, and in Pendleton Sunday, Mar. 13. The groups will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Hermis ton Junior High School audi torium, and at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Pioneer Theatre of the campus in Pendleton. This embroidery is well suited for use as border decorations as well as wall hangings and art pieces. Emphasis on creativity in design and application. BEGINNING TENNIS For persons with no previous tennis experience or very limited skills. INTERMEDIATE TENNIS For persons with basic knowledge and skills in tennis who wish to improve their skills. TOLE PAINTING CORNHUSKERS Prerequisite: Beginning Tole Painting. Unusual technique of tole painting cornhusker characters on wood. AUTO TUNE-UP AND MAINTENANCE Learn to develop skills to diagnose and repair engine malfunctions. Students will learn how to tune fuel and electrical systems in automobiles. BEGINNING WOODWORKING Students will be taught the use of hand and power tools along with methods of assembly and finishing. Students will construct projects of their choice within limits of ability as determined by their instructor. PAINTING Introduction in the use of oil color and other painting media. Use of ink pen and a variety of pen sizes to develop different shapes and joining techniques will be stressed. SHAKESPEARE AT ASHLAND A detailed examination of the four Shakespearean plays being produced in Ashland during the summer theatre season with emphasis on understanding and appreciation of the Elizabethan style. EXPECTANT PARENTS CLASS This course covers prepara tion for the parents-to-be, what to expect at the hospital, and care of the new mother and the newborn. Breathing techniques and relaxation exercises (LaMaze birth technique) are emphasized to prepare the couple for a controlled labor and delivery. MICROWAVE COOKING A basic introductory course to electronic oven cooking designed to help the new user of the Microwave Oven. Sessions will include food preparation and cooking by class members as well as discussions of utensils and accessories, recipe adjustments and other information tech niques pertaining to microwave cooking. WEAVING No equipment is necessary for this class. Course will include spinning with a drop spindle and dyeing the wool with natural dye. GARDENING Prepare for spring planting and care of your plants, flowers, shrubs, and trees. The course will also cover preparing the ground for a vegetable garden what to plant and when to plant it.
