Congratulations to the King and Queen of Hearts, Jerry and
Joyce Kay Hollomon. They were crowned at the Square
Dancers' Valentine party at lone last Friday night. A good
crowd from Heppner, the lone area and Hermiston was there to
cheer for them and to have a fine evening.
This Friday, Feb. 25, a bus loaded with Spray students and
several teachers will come to Heppner during the day. They will
tour the Kinzua Mill and the County Museum. Their teacher,
Kirt Bell, phoned ahead to make arrangements.

. Everyone was pleased that various rumors that flew around
early last week about the health of County Judge Paul W. Jones
were false that he just had a touch o flu and needed some
extra rest wasn't hospitalized had no heart attack.
i We heard a citizen who used the new south-county dump last
Saturday say that about six boxes of books were dumped there
recently. Too bad that they weren't passed on to some other
readers if they were good if they were Hustler Magazines,
we're glad they went to the dump.
We have recently reported the arrival of two fellows from
Wallowa County, John McConnell and Paul McCarthy. Now we
have met two attractive girls who will soon come to live here
Irom Walla Walla. They are Lea and Tracy Rush, whose father
is manager of the Les Schwab Tire Center. Lea and Tracy like
Heppner and are eager for the family to locate suitable housing.
They will be coming over each weekend with their mother and
staying during the week in their large home in Walla Walla until
something adequate for the family turns up here.
Several folks tried to rent rototillers over the weekend to get
early starts on gardening, but found that none were available.
Seems that the shops that will be renting them later just never
expected such an early demand and do not have their machines
overhauled and ready to go now.
How thankful we are for the little spring rain we have had. It
began to rain just as churchgoers were filing out last Sunday.
Some of them think it proved the power of prayer. How we hope
this state and neighboring states get much more moisture these
next several months.
Next Tuesday, we move into a new month. Some people loved
the two work-free Mondays of February. March should please
pupils and teachers who will be out of classrooms from Mar. 18
until Mar. 28.
Do you realize that before Julius Caeser reformed the
calendar, the year ended with February. Romans purified
themselves that month to prepare for festivals that started
their new year on Mar. 1. Caesar moved the beginning of the
year from March to January, making February the second
month. If he hadn't made this change, we could be saying
"Happy New Year" next Tuesday.
Our dear Irish friends have their special wearing-o-the-green
day on Thursday, Mar. 17. Here in Morrow County, why don't we
make St. Patrick's Day a really big holiday.
