The casts of the plays and the production staff proved that they could turn out fine work. The set designs and construction were outstanding work by Chris Wright, David Steagall, Phil Johnson and Bill Rawlins. Connie Lewison with light ing, Michelle Portmann as sound manager and Jan Lutch as make-up supervisor con tributed much to the produc tions. The contest judges surely had a struggle in naming the winners for the evening. Marsha Mathewson, one of the judges, announced the win ning efforts. The other two judges were Susan Dicker and Anne Toney. The winning play was "Not Enough Rope," which was stage-managed by Carl Christman. The runner-up was "The Monkey's Paw." Bob Miller was the stage manager for this three-scene production. The judges selected Judy Farley of "Not Enough Rope" as best leading actress; and named Lynn Gochnauer of "Sunday Costs Five Pesos" as best supporting actress. Bob Miller, the father in "The Monkey's Paw," was chosen best male actor in a leading role; Charlie Rawlins was named best supporting actor. Each play was unique. The first short Mexican drama was a lightweight romance , with Scott Groshens and Marie Yocom as the lovers supported by Lynn Goch nauer, Tami Prock and Joan Ployhar. The longer "The Monkey's Paw" was second and it was a heavy melodrama. This took place in England in the home of the Millers, Bob Miller and Judy Ledbetter. Their son, played by Ty Lucas, an un usual Sergeant Major, por trayed by Charlie Rawlins, and Phil Johnson in the sup porting role of Mr. Sampson completed its cast. The third play, "The Open Window," featured Wendy Myers and Scott Groshens, who were supported by Joan Ployhar, Tami Prock, Carl Christman and Ty Lucas. The final play featured Judy Farley and Charlie Rawlins with Tina Miller in a sup porting role. Those who missed these productions really missed see ing dedicated youngsters working together very well under the direction of Jane Rawlins, English Department head. We hope the Drama Workshop Class will prepare more presentations. Gooseberry 4H'ers set Mar. 6 meet The Gooseberry Livestock Club met Jan. 9 at the home of Gerald Bergstrom, club co leader. The meeting was called to order by Clint Carlsen, president, Kathleen Van Shoiack, reporter, said. Minutes of the last meeting . were read by Paula Palmer, secretary. Carlson and Rick Gilbert have sent in applications for the WSU U of I Tour to be held Feb. 4 to 7. The tour will be at the WSU Veterinary School, Beef Science Center, National 1 Appaloosa Headquarters and 1 U of I Livestock facilities. Three club members have animals on feed for the Oregon Wheat League Show, to be held June 5 to 8 at The Dalles auction yard. A discussion was held on why we are in 4-H and what we expect of our leaders. Next meeting date is Mar. 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bob Van Schoiack horns.
