hapless Pirettes
Heppner's Filly junior varsity gave up just five field goals as
they pounded a hapless Riverside JV club, 43-12, in girls'
basketball action Thursday.
Riverside took the offensive when Suzie Hascall hit a fielder,
but it was the lone score for the Pirettes in that period. Heppner
raced back to an 8-2 edge and led, 16-6, at half time.
Geri Grieb scored six of her game high 10 points in the third
period as Heppner stretched its lead to 30 points at 38-8.
The final period saw the Heppner bench empty and the two
' teams trade buckets to the buzzer.

country rival, Riverside,
Thursday, improving the Filly
mark to 4-5.
Mollahan shot 66 per cent
from the field, canning six of
nine shots. Guy Kenny was
next in line with nine points.
There was little question,
after the initial tip off, as to
the outcome of the mismatch.
Heppner dominated the
boards, outrebounding the
Pirettes, 51-21, and outshot
them from the field, 28-13.
After a period, Heppner led
11-3. Though Riverside made a
valiant try at a comeback in
the second period, the closest
they could draw was three
points at 16-13.
By halftime, Heppner had
erased the three point edge
and exchanged it for a nine
point lead, 26-17.
Mollahan and Edmundson
each scored six points in the
third quarter to pace a 16-7
effort that gave Heppner a
comfortable, 42-24 lead. Seven
girls scored in the fourth
period as the Fillies bombed
Riverside, 18-7.
Heppner shot 41 per cent
from the field, hitting 28 of 69
tries.. Riverside, sparked by
Kathy Monjay 's 16 points, shot
22 per cent, making 13 of 59
tries.
Cathy Stubblefield, a sharp
shooter from the outside, was
cooled by Filly defenders.
Stubblefield paced Riverside
in the two squads' first en
counter with 12, but was
stopped with eight this week.
Maureen Healy continued to
lead the board battle, pulling
down 12. Wendy Meyers had 11
rebounds and Deb Holland
added seven.

Rockets and Pirates can

found out this week. The
Rockets broke a halftime

visiting Pirates and the win,

Rebounding was a big key to
the loss. Riverside was out
