Jones also told the chamber
audience that the petition was
being met with mixed reaction
in lone. Jones said that many
businessmen did not particu
larly want the road, but that
they had been "pressured"
into signing it.
Some businessmen in lone
did express their approval of
the petition and its cause,
noting that the city could re
ceive some growth if the idea
pans out.
Jones said that lone is
making applications and stud
io of an improved water and
sewer system and if that were
to be completed in two to three
years, it would give lone a
chance to house some of the
personnel from Carty.
'"There was no enthusiasm
from lone businessmen,"
Jones said. "They were pres
sured into signing it (peti
tion." The road would add the
three and a half miles to the
already present 10 miles of
Reitmann Grade, making the
trip from lone to Carty about
13-15 miles, depending on
curves, Jones said.
Carty would employ a peak
working force of about 800
persons. The average employ
ment force is estimated to be
600 through the construction
period. This represents an
annual construction payroll of
about $9 to f 10 million.
The plant is scheduled to be
developed between 1975 and
1980.
