Heppner High School
homecoming court offers
beauty as well as royalty.
Five girls were sc lected by
the HHS football players to
represent them at this year's
winter homecoming activities.
It's
depressing'
There you are.
A senior in high school.
Outstanding student and ath
lete. Quarterback on the school's
undefeated football team. Do
ing a good job at the signal
calling spot, completing 50 per
cent of your passes.
Then wham! A tackle on a
QR sneak leaves you holding a
throbbing passing arm. Diag
nosis: dislocated shoulder.
Remedy: Isolation for atxHJt,
six weeks.
A senior quarterback's
dream can burst like a bubble
just like that. Ask Dave All
stott, lleppner's senior of
fensive grid general.
He doesn't call signals in the
huddle any more. He doesn't
bark out commands at the
line. He sits sometimes with
the team, other times in the
bleachers like any other Mus
tang booster.
What goes through his
head? "It's depressing," Dave
said. "It's something you
don't expect. It ended so fast."
But Allstott isn't one to
dwell on the past. He's already
looking toward basketball, his
favorite sport, where he Is a
standout forward.
Doctors told Dave to do a lot
of running and stay in shape,
lifting weights with his left
arm and legs will keep him in
shape and isolating the right
arm should mend it.
The shoulder was dislocated
Inwards on the ball joint. It
happened In the third quarter
against Riverside two weeks
go-
Allstott called a play In the
huddle. But when he got to the
line, the linebacker were
spread out 10 yards. "It waa
wide open," Dave said.
He decided to take the ball
himself. After a good gain,
somebody "got hold of my
arm" and the next thing he
knew, "It started hurting."
Allstott continues to be one
of the Mustangs biggest sup
porters. Although his body
isn't in the game, his mind and
heart are.
Wait till basketball season.
