A couple new wrinkles have ;
been o a plump rule .
book. One I in the interest of
safety and one is In the
Interest of (Maying the foot
ball game a little longer.
The safety rule concerns
spearing. An official will
automatically eject a player
who (peart with his helmet
Into an opposing player. That
kind of stuns the old head In
the numbers theory.
The other is a a encroach
ment rule. For years, the de
fense has been able to test the
offense by bouncing around
and even Jumping offsides, if
they could get back before the
snap of the football.
This season, a defender
can't cross that invisible plain
between the football and the
defense. If he does, no matter
if he gets back before the
snap, it's a five yard penalty
against the defense.
Now you know why all the
whistles.
