One Shot Roscoe
We built a hunting lodge up where Roscoe stayed, at Ihe
mouth of Herron Creek. We hunted there a lot. One season,
this was two years ago. and Roscoe was getting rather feeble,
j but he still hunted and he was still the best hunter In the
' 0,fil' .... ..w
But he hunted alone because he couldn t keep up with us.
We were hunting along and we had pretty good luck. 1 think
we killed, among the bunch of us, aboul seven elk. We didn't
hear of Koscoe killing any.
The day after the season was over we were making wo.l
for Ihe ski camp that wlnlrr and Roscoe came up to help. Old
Pappy Lryva and I were piling wood Inside of the cabin and
Roscoe was outside helping buck up this wood. One of the
men said to him "Roscoe, to bad you didn't get an elk this
year "
Who said I didn'l gel any elk. I killed two bulls", Roscoe
said I turned to Pappy Leyv i and I said "Pappy. I got 1100
dollars that Roscoe killed thowe two bulls with two shots, will
you call me"T
Pappy saw him shool those coyotes and Pappy woultln t
call me So I wenl outside and said "Roscoe, thme two bulls,
how many shots"? Roscoe's face got long and sad and ht held
up his hand with three fingers, three shots.
I said "Three shots, how come"T "Weir he said, "one of
them was leaving going off through the brush and I had to
turn him around before I could kill him."

tee cup
Craig Cooley made news during Wednesday
night play on August 4 when he made a
hole-ln-one on number 9. He was playing with
Harold and Brian Kerr and Jim Wishart. I'm
told the ball didn't roll into the hole but went
in on the fly. Good golfing Craig.
Results of women's play last Tuesday
shows Marie McQuarrie winning honors for
low net and KP during the a.m. play. Low
gross was scored by VI Lanham. In the
evening round Harriet Evans was low gross
winner and Dee Gribble won low net.
Pairings have been made for the Club
Championship tourney and play has begun.
There is a large field entered this year so it
should be great competition.
