Engaged
The 10th day of June, school
has been out for two weeks.
We who are involved with our
children pulling rye, find the
early hours that our children
are waking up to rather hard
to take. Then there are the
baseball practices and games.
A five-day wait for the swim
pool to open up. This all spells
summer and its great!
Lucia and Jim Barrett, Alta
Cutsforth and Mr. and Mrs.
Orvllle Cutsforth were in
Corvallis this past weekend to
attend Tom Cutsforth's grad
uation and commissioning in
the U.S. Navy.
Mrl and Mrs. Robert Scriv

Day weekend with his mother,
Mrs. Lee Scrivner. Also visit
ing Mrs. Lee Scrivner were
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ben
nett; Bend, OR.
Mrs! Ruth McMurdo has
sold her home and moved to
Corvallis, OR, where she will
be living in a retirement home
there. Also her son Scott, who
lives in Corvallis will be
nearby. Ruth's address is 285
N. 35th Street, Corvallis, OR,

Ernie Ceresa has driven to
California to attend his
daughter's eighth grade grad
uation. Taking his place is Wil
Phinney of the Hermiston
Herald.

will be helping me write this
column, adding her interest

temporary population boom.
Two visiting daughters with
their husbands and with three
children each are there with
across-the-street parents.
The Harold Becket's dau
ghter Sharon and husband
Albert Burkenbine with Mich
ael 13, Michelle 11 and
Tamara 6 drove from their
home in Wilkesboro, NC. They
arrived May 30 and will stay
abeut a week longer. Sharon
anS Albert are both Heppner
High graduates. She finished
in 1954 and he is a member of
the class of 1S52.

Beckets, the Winn Crists are
enjoying a visit with their
daughter Sheryl Berry, her
husband Ray and their child
ren Jana 7, Jay 4 and D-Anne
3. The Berrys drove from their
home in Colorado Springs,
arriving last Saturday. Sheryl
graduated from Heppner High
in the class of 1962.
Last Sunday the Beckets
had additional guests, Har
old's brother Bill and wife
, Sally and Albert's brother
Lloyd Burkenbine came from
Portland for the day. The
entire group enjoyed a picnic
at Bull Prairie Lake.
Mabel Denny, Portland, has
been having a good visit with
Ella Smith and has enjoyed
seeing many old friends in the
county. The ladies have visit
ed at the George Currin home.
George and Mabel are cou
sins. They have also visited in
lone.
Ella and Mabel were part of
the sizable group that attend
ed the Farewell Potluck for
the Edwin Cuttings at the Uni
ted Methodist Church on
Tuesday evening, June 1.
Clifford Green, chairman of
the administrative board of
the church, presented Rev.
Cutting with a Pot of Gold as a
parting gift of appreciation.
Mrs. Cutting was ill and
unable to attend the festivi
ties. The Cuttings will leave
for their new assignment at
Coquille early next week.
The Rene Toll John Led
better wedding on Saturday
afternoon in the Methodist
Church featured a yellow and
white color scheme. Rev.
Cutting presided, assisted by
organist Pauline Miller. A
reception followed the cere
mony. Also seen in Corvallis over
the weekend were Dr. and
Mrs. Wallace Wolff and family
who attended Shelley Mar
garet's graduation cere
monies at Oregon State Uni
versity. Shelley received her
degree in business admini
stration. Then there are those people
who have two sons graduating
from two different colleges.
Beverly Gunderson and Lucil
le Massey attended Doug's
graduating ceremonies at
Blue Mountain Community
College, Pendleton, where
Doug received an associate
degree in radio broadcasting.

versity. David received his
degree in business admini

Mike Hedman received his
degree in Agriculture. Mike is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnie
Hedman.
Earl James received his
degree in pharmacy. His
parents Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Pettyjohn watched the cere
mony with pride.
Charles Acock, Boardman,
received his degree in science.
Charles is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. C.W. Acock.
Morrow County parents and
friends were well represented
in Corvallis this last Sunday
when they attended the grad
uating ceremonies of the
above.
LEXINGTON
Mr. and Mrs. Don Pointer
were Corvallis visitors last
weekend, where they attended
their son, Charles graduation
from Oregon State University.
Charles received his degree in
agriculture.
His sister, Louise, Seattle,
also attended the graduation
exercises.
On Saturday Maude Pointer
was given a birthday party at
her home in Corvallis . Those
attending were Mr. and Mrs.
Don Pointer, Mrs. Bud Batty,
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pointer
and Charlie and Louise.

Lodge No. 139 was a recent
visitor at Pioneer Memorial
Hospital. She presented hospi
tal administrator Ilene Wy
man a check in the amount of
$136 for the purchase of an
automatic walker, given in
memory of departed sisters.
Thursday, May 20, the lodge
met in regular session and
draped the charter in memory
of its departed sister, June
Field and initiated eight
members into the Lodge.
Following the initiation the
following sisters were intro
duced to the members: Penny
Huffman; Robin Irwin, Linda
Jones. Darlene Klinger, Nor
ma Groce, Ann Chick, Millie
Yocom and Denise Asher. Hil
da Yocom was presented her
PNG jewel and Faye Ruhl a
' 25-year jewel. Later Hilda
presented her daughter Millie
with a membership pin and
Delpha Jones presented her
daughter Linda with a Rebe
kah Pin.
Refreshments were served
to the members later in the
evening.
Tuesday the lodge held an
election day dinner at the
Lodge and the committee
wishes to thank all friends and
members for their help.
Delegates Hilda Yocom and
Delpha Jones left Tuesday for
an assembly in Eugene. They
are happy to announce that a
past Heppner resident, Oliver
Cresswick. was installed as
Grand Master Thursday ev
ening replacing Jack Sumner
the outgoing Past Master who
was also from Heppner.
Freda Majeske also a mem
ber of Holly Lodge was pre
sent for the weeks activities.
Thursday. June 3, the group
will leave Lexington at 7:30
a.m. for a chartered bus trip
to the Odd Fellows Home.

newly installed president of
Alpha Theta, chapter of the
E.S.A.
Ms. Wilson was installed at
a beautiful candle light cere
mony, presided over by Con
don president Susan Snyder.
Behind a table decorated
with red roses and red
candles, Ms. Wilson gave her
message and theme for the
coming term. Her flower will
be the rose, for it brings to
mind the feeling of love.
