Mrs. Beth Bryant was
honored at the Friendship
Night and Reception during
the April meeting at the
Masonic Temple.
Bryant is a member of the
Cancer Research Fund of the
Grand Chapter of Oregon and
Worthy Matron of the Ruth
Locust Chapter No. 32, Order
of Eastern Star, Heppner.
Mrs. Bryant has visited
every Chapter in District 4
explaining the Cancer Re
search project, which is a fund
supported by donations from
Eastern Star "members all
over the state. The total con
tributions for the year are
presented in June during
Grand Chapter to Dr. William
Fletcher, professor of surgery
and director of the Tumor
Clinic of the University of
Oregon Medical School. Last
year the donation amounted to
more than $23,000.
Mrs. Larry Prock narrated
a skit in which Mrs. Claude
Graham, Mrs. Lowell Gribble,
Mrs. Bill Cox, Mrs. Harold
Beckett, and Mrs. John Wood
modeled the newest in spring
hats for all occasions. A gift of
appreciation was presented to
Mrs. Bryant from the Chapter-

MATH LAB WORKSHOP

trict and neighboring districts
will take part in a workshop at
the school district office in
Lexington from 9:30 a.m. to
3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 15.
Leader for the workshop
will be Mrs. Judy Johnson,
resource teacher from the
Lane County I.E.D. Mrs.
Johnson is recognized as one
of the oustanding teachers of
elementary mathematics in
Oregon. She will present ideas
and information about setting
up and running math lab
activities in elementary class
rooms.

JUNE BERTHA FIELD
June Bertha (Way) Field
died suddenly Monday, May 3,
at the home of her daughter
Diana Edgerton in New Bern,
N.C. Mrs. Field was a
member of several Morrow
County pioneer families. She
was born to Dan J. and Iva
Way at Lexington, Aug. 13,
1918. She attended grade
school in the county and high
school at the Oregon State
Blind School, Salem.
Her oldest brother Stanley
A. Way was killed in Germany
during World War II. The
surviving Way brothers are:
Joseph D.. The Dalles; Claude
E., Okanagan, WA.; Kenneth
M., Hillsboro; Marvin, Lex
ington; Asa L., Beaverton.
June's sisters are: Maxine
Jensen, Dixie, WA.; Zelma
McDaniel, Heppner.
She leaves eight children:

Funeral arrangements will
be announced later.
Funeral services will be
held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 7,
at the Lexington Church of
Christ, with the Rev. Gus
Nikander officiating.
