Looks like Saturday will be
the day for us to be on hand to
cheer the walkers on. The
Walkathon has become one of
the main topics of conversa
tion with all the students
asking for sponsors from the
local citizens. Judge Paul
Jones has donated $100 to
wards the event. He will not be
able to walk himself, but has
volunteered Com. Warren Mc
Coy or Com. Homer Hughes,
to walk for him. Orville Cuts
forth has donated $23 for one
of his grandchildren to walk
the 20 miles. I can count seven
grandchildren who now should
get out and walk. The place to
meet is at . the Ford garage
parking lot at about 9 a.m.
I didn't overlook our two
mayors. Gene Orwick. Lex
ington, or Bob Drake, lone., I
just assumed that they would
not let Honorable Mayor
Sweeney, Heppner, take all
the lime light. Come on fellows
the walkitis for the March of
Dimes.
Just read where the rela
tives of Howard Hughes can
not find over 180 million
dollars of his money. Think we
should paddle a canoe to Ber
muda and start digging in the
sand It would be a nice
vacation.
There are three bake sales
this weekend with the Ameri
can Legion and the Degree of
Honor holding theirs on Fri
day. April 16 and the Heppner
Child Development Center
holding one on Saturday. April
17. With all the women baking
for the bake sales, there
should be some good eating on
Easter Sunday.
Have hope gals ... our golf
ing has definite possibilities of
improving, Phoebe Hayes, 73,
scored her first ACE on the 120
yard 8th hole, Boardman on
April 5. Phoebe has been play
ing golf for the past 3 years
and this is her first "Hole-in-
One." Now doH you feel
better?
The signs of spring are all
around us with the grass
turning green. The bright
colors of yellow, purple, red,
white and blue edging the
yards, makes all the fall work
worthwhile.
You are invited to the
"Agri-Rama" that will be held
April 20 starting at 12:30 p.m.
at the Elks Lodge, Heppner.
Burdine Tullis was asked if
this was to be a luncheon, her
answer was no, but we will
have lots of snacks. I agree
with Birdine that Molly Beck
et should be there to supervise
the french fry department
provided by Gourmet Foods.
After all Molly, you want to
become active in your com
munity. This Tuesday is vote day.
The candidates who are run
ning for positions on the school
and advisory board need your
vote. The Blue Mountain
Community College and Mor
row County scnool budgets are
up for vote again. Our
everlasting dog problems that
seem to crop up at every other
city and county meeting will
be up for vote asking the
county to enforce some kind of
control. Be active, VOTE.
The CowBelle luncheon and
program was well attended
this Tuesday. The guest spea
ker was Liz Hyde, State
CowBelle president.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Privett
recently returned to their
home in Heppner after spend
ing the winter in Arizona.
They reported a very enjoy
able time and are planning to
return next fall.
Some of the highlights of
their trip were visits to Mex
ico, the Organ Pipes National
Monument, London Bridge,
Boulder Dam and a copper pit
mine in Ajo, AZ. These were
just several of the many
interesting places and things
they saw.
They caught "rock hound
fever" and brought many nice
specimens back with them.
On their return trip they met
their daughter and husband,
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Brown,
Newport, OR. in Death Valley,
CA, and spent a very interest
ing week visiting Scottie's
Castle, the Charcoal Kilns, the
Twenty-Mule Team Borax x
Mines, the Salt Flats and
many beautiful canyons and
mountains.

Your Needs ?
We Do.
Security Required
Land Bank loans are made on the security of
first mortgages on farm or ranch land,
part-time farms and rural housing.
Size of Loan
The amount of loan which may be made is
dependent upon the appraised value of the
security to be mortgaged and the debt
repayment ability of the applicant.
Terms of Loan
Terms are fitted to the security and needs of
the borrower. The 29-ear term is probably
the most popular, but loans can be made for
terms up to 4a jrars.

PLAN TO VISIT THE
PIONEER COl'RTHOl'SE
When you are in downtown
Portland, take time to visit the
Pioneer Post Office-Courthouse
between Fourth and
Fifth Avenues and Alder and
Yamhill Streets.
On its second floor a Morrow
County native, the historian
Circuit Court of Appeals
Judge John F. Kilkenny has,
with the help of many, brought
about a beautiful restoration
of the court rooms and offices.
This spring he was awarded
the Oregon Chapter D.A.R.
Medal of Honor for his out
standing leadership.
Judge Kilkenny and his
Pilot Rock-Pendleton secre
tary Louise Kopp are happy to
show Morrow visitors around.
They point with pride to the
big, roll-top desk sent from
this county by Phil Mahoney
which was formerly used by
Judge Calvin Sweek. They tell
the history of each piece of
historic furniture.
So, if you love Oregon
history, a fine restoration and
lovely furniture visit Port
land's Pioneer Courthouse and
Judge John F. Kilkenny and
Louise Kopp.
