The Morrow County Plan
ning Commission met at the
Courthouse with Mrs. Dorris
Craves opening the meeting.
The final plat for Desert
Delight was approved. Ivan
Driver, engineer for owner.
Mrs. McCall. noted that a 40
aire tract north of the 20 67
acres in the preliminary plat
has been added to the plat to
comply with state regulations,
because it is contiguous with
the 2i 67 acres in the original
plat. The 4(1 acres will have to
be sold as one lot. or a second
sulwlivision created. Driver
also consulted with Roadmas
tf Doc- Shearer, and they are
working toward completion of
the road into the subdivision.
Cminty Planner David Moon
stated that it will not be a
county '. road until formal
acceptance by the County

subdivision is located ap
proximately 2'; miles south
west of Irrigon.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Denton requested an exten
sion of their Conditional Use
permit to operate an auction
marl near Irrigon. Since there
were mi objections, the exten
sion was approved.
Mr. Ray Haliciki. repre
senting Portland General Ele
ctric, presented a map of the
, areas that they propose to
mine. He said the material
graded from the plant site will
be used in constructing the

soil may be gone if it is not
protected from wind erosion.
She further suggested that the

LCDC to serve as the Citizen
Involvement Committee for
the county.

Health Nurse Pat Wright was
very pleased with the success
ful diabetic detection clinic
held the first part of this
month. The Health Depart
ment tested over 300 people
and of those. 26 were sent to
their doctors for further
testing.
OTC approves
budget reduction
In an effort to bring the
budget in line with income, the
Oregon Transportation Com
mission approved reductions
in the Highway Division's
approved 1975-77 biennium
budget of $8 million.
The loss of income to the
Highway Division has been
attributed to several factors
among which are inflation and
a sharp drop in anticipated
revenues from weight-mile
taxes.
Approximately $10 million is
needed to make up the deficit
in highway tax revenues but
the Commission explained
that it did not expect the
Highway Division to take all of
the cuts. The Commission is
hoping that other agencies
which depend on highway
revenues for their income .
would also voluntarily take
cuts. These agencies include
the State Police. Division of
Motor Vehicles and the Public
Utility Commissioner.
In explaining the projected
cuts. Fred B. Klaboe, admini
strator of the Highway Divi
sion said. "Every considera
tion and effort has been made
to assure that there are no
cuts in areas which would
affect the safety of the
motoring public."

Checks totaling $143,739.73
were mailed Dec. 13 to
members and investors of
Pendleton Grain Growers,
Inc.
These checks, which are
historically mailed at this
season of the year, represent a
portion of the profit made by
PGG during 1964 and 1963.
"The money goes primarily to
residents of Eastern Oregon
and Washington and is made
possible by members doing
business with their locally
owned company." according
to Don Cook. General Manag
er. Cook commented that this
brought the total amount of
cash paid back to local
members during the year to a
total of $547,076.53. "
A farm record keeping
session is planned for Hepp
ner. Jan. 12-13, reports Harold
Kerr. County Extension Ag
ent. The session will be taught by
Manning Becker, Farm Ma
nagement specialist from Or
egon State University.
The two-day session will
begin at 1:30 each day and
continue to 4:30 p.m.
The main theme of the
session will be to provide
assistance to farmers and
ranchers on day to day record
keeping. Wives are often given
this job and we encourage
them to come.
Those interested should call
the Extension office, 676-9642.
The class will not be offered
unless 12 or more sign up.
There is no charge for the
class.
The U.S. Forest Service now
has the option of setting up
cooperative work and training
programs with state forestry
agencies and private organi
zations. Congressman Al Ull
man said.
President Gerald R. Ford
has now signed into law a bill
Ullman introduced permitting
the Forest Service to contract
for part-time and emergency
work from the Oregon State
Department of Forestry and
other public agencies.
A major advantage of the
cooperaive agreements, ac
cording to Ullman. would be
better and more flexible forest
fire protection.
The state would also be able
to hire, train and maintain
larger crews for forest main
tenance and fire fighting
work. Ullman said, if the
Forest Service will be con
tracting for part-time ' and
emergency services.
Under the law's provisions,
cooperative agreements could
cover forest maintenance.

The new arrangement
should be especially helpful In
