The Page 4, THE GAZETTE-TIMES, Heppner, OR. Dec. 4, 1975 Party By Dor(hy Ziu Line The tall, stark buildings that grace the skylines of our cities, once viewed by me, now is a thing of the past. Thank goodness. This past weekend, three women, five children and two dogs took off for the mountain cabin. All of us were in wonder with the deep snow and the silence of the tall, majestic mountains sur rounding us. It was late Saturday evening when we heard the children whispering wishes for an eight-foot blizzard. Then their vacation would not be over. Early Sunday morning we heard my friends eight-year-old daughter (city raised) shouting up the stairs. "Mom, mom, your car is lost in the snow and we didnt do it." Their w ishes had come true, four hours later. Grandpa Cutsforth came to the rescue. Thanks Grandpa. Mrs. Lee Scrivner returned this week from Spokane, where she has been visiting her son and daughter-in-law. Bill and Alice. Alice's mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. George Gorden, and Alice's sister and husband. Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Berget and dau ghter Kellie, Forest Grove, were all visitors of the Bill Scrivner home during the Thanksgiving holidays. It was Thanksgiving at the Orville Cutsforth cabin. Faye and Jim Uiler and daughters Casey and Lynn. Kenniwick, Vesta Kilkenny, Portland and her four children Russell, Portland, Patrick, Seattle; Kellie and John, Eugene. Dorothy. Chris and Elizabeth Zita and Alta Cutsforth were there to help Barbara and Orville celebrate the day. The Womens Newcomers Club will be holding a singfest around the community Christ mas tree every Sunday even ing. The Christmas caroling will begin at 6 p.m. This will be a good time for the families to get together and sing, along with getting to know their neighbors. This week's column "Com panionship" written by Terry D. Hirni, ACSW, explains the feelings of new comers in this area. We all agree that Heppner is sadly lacking in hospitality. It is fairly, easy if you have children in school, attend church services. But for a young mother w ith young children at home, I can remember how difficult it was for me. The Newcomers club is hoping to help in this area. Even if you don't eat lunch. Join them in a cup of coffee at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant. There is the Heppner Child Development Center where your child can be dropped off for a while. Saturday afternoon an open house bridal shower was held for Lynda Orwick at the Episcopal Parish Hall. Host ing the shower were Sue Greenup, Debbie Johnston, Pauline Matheny. Alvina Padberg, Beverly Gunderson and Kathy Pointer. Don and Jan Gunderson and their daughter. Sandra, Wil sonville, were Thanksgiving visitors at the home of Eddie and Bev Gunderson. Pat Wright, our county health nurse, was sworn in as Lexington's first councilwom an Tuesday night. Mayor Gene Orwick said that two men have resigned this year. They are Leonard Munkers and Jack White. Gene would n't say whom Pat was replacing. But with Pat there the meetings have to be interesting. Her sense of humor is tremendous, even under advertisities. I'm not playing favorites, of course not. however, time after time Peterson's Jewelry window displays are always nice enough to catch the eye. The Christmas Santa sleeping and the busy elf makes one stop and look. Thanksgiving visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Anderson were their daught er, Adclia Martin, her daught er, Suzanne, and three other granddaughters; Lisa, Shelly and Alison Parent. Nov. 30, 7:30 p m. Jan Lutsch and Nancy Sweek presented information on the selection and care of proper tack and clothing for the different styles of English riding. A large number of 4H members present expressed their interest in English riding and asked that it be included in the 4 H horse show. It was stressed that the mode of dress would be informal and not to be considered in judging if approval of said classes can be introduced. Training lessons taking place on Sunday afternoons should equip all participants to be able to compete in forth coming horse shows in this area and elsew here. Because of the large numb er of persons now participat ing in these training sessions, it is necessary for everyone to be prompt prior to the scheduled time. Presently there is a limitation on the number of riders per each home group. Plans are to continue riding all winter, with additional sessions for others wishing to participate. Interested persons should no tify the instructors imme diately. In taking advantage of this instruction, horse people will be better equipped to school horses with proper aids and become more accomplished In English as well as Western riding.
