This weekend the Mustang trackmen will be competing in the Umatilla Invitational at Umatilla on Saturday. Field events are scheduled to begin at 12 o'clock with running events to start at 12:30. The following Monday Heppner w ill be at Pendleton for a 3:30 p.m. meet. The mouths of most Colum bia River tributary streams are now closed to angling for salmon 12 inches and over and steelhead under an emergen cy rule adopted by the Oregon Wildlife Commission last Fri day. the rule strengthens the closure already in effect on the Columbia River and will remain in force through July Si. The Commission adopted the amendment after State Police reported citing a num ber of anglers for cheating on the Columbia River closure. They were fishing at the mouths of tributary streams. Tanner Creek in particular, and allowing their lines to drift out into the Columbia River itself. All Columbia River tribu taries between Astoria and St. Helens and all those east of the Sandy River are closed from their mouths to the railroad line which parallels the Col umbia River. The closure will not affect salmon or steelhead angling in the Willamette River or in Multnomah Channel which may both be fished above the boundary markers located at their mouths. The Columbia River closure was put into effect last month to protect salmon and steel head runs destined for the upper Columbia and Snake River systems. Runs of both species are expected to be at low levels this year due to heavy losses of downstream migrants in 1972 and 1973. Junior rodeo June 7-8 The Morrow County Junior Rodeo will be held June 7 and 8. with an afternoon show each dav. This rodeo is for Western State Junior Rodeo Associa tion members and Morrow County residents. There will be the regular rodeo events as usual. Howard Johnson. Con don, will furnish the stock.
