Leading by 1 point in the last seven seconds of the game, 60-59. Mustang Clayton Wilson went to the free throw line. He made the first shot and missed the second attempt, giving the Mustangs a 2 point lead, 61-59. The Vikings got the ball started for the Heppner goal when Mustang Wade Padberg tipped the ball and later passed to John Kilkenny for another 2 points and a victory for the Mustangs. In the first quarter the Vikings led the Mustangs 15-11 and the Mustangs had to play catch-up ball to get back into the gamj As the half ended the Mustangs had a 34-31 lead. The Vikings turned the tide in the third quarter and as the period ended the game was tied at 45 all. "In the fourth quarter the Vikings, who upset Sherman Cpunty earlier this season, appeared to have another victory in their grasp, until the Mustangs came alive and took a J point lead as the game was coming to a close. The Mustangs were never in any serious trouble during the game, but the Pirates were consistent in their threat throughout the game. The Pirates took a quick lead and led the Mustangs. 22-20. at the end of the first pejiod. A few turnovers early in the second period and the Mus tangs went ahead of the Pirates, a lead they would nejer relinquish during the remainder of ;he game.
