Husfangs beat Condon
in 52-51 cliff longer
The Heppner Mustangs
came from behind Friday
night in the last feu minutes of
(he final period to win their
first game in the Columbia
Basin league by heating the
Condon Blue Devils. 52-51.
The last three and one-half
minutes of the game had the
fans on their feet cheering as
the score changed from a
Mustang lead to one point for
Condon with each basket
made !n the last eight
swmids of the game, with the
Blue Devils leading 51-50. the
Mustangs took the game when
Ditve McLachlan put one
throuuh the hoop
A foul committed by the
Mustangs gave the Blue
Devils the ball, although the
final buzzer had sounded. The
DAVE McLachlan (32. Heppner. goes high in the air
to sink this two-point basket in Friday night's game
against Condon

referee ruled that the ball
would be put in play by
Condon, as the game could not
end with a foul on either team
Condon took possession of
the hall out of bounds and a
desperation pass toward their
goal was intercepted by De
Wayne McClain. As he threw
the ball in the direction of the
Mustangs goal he was fouled
by a Condon player
McClain was swamped by
the fans, and as the referees
tried to clear the court he
tossed the ball at the hoop to
end the game, as both teams
had already left the court.
Neither team showed any
scoring ability in the first
quarter and most of the points
scored by each team were
made on free throws. When

Mustangs led the Blue Devils.

In the second period the
Blue Devils caught fire and
began scoring and had an
eight -point lead Then the
Mustangs came alive and
rallied to close the gap at the
half and trail by one point.

In the third quarter the
Mustangs couldn't buy a
basket while Condon managed
to score. The Blue Devils were
able to steal the ball from the
Mustangs and were also
getting the rebounds. As the
third period of play ended the
Blue Devils led 37-32.
In the final period the
Mustangs revived and after
six turnovers they gained the
lead With three minutes left
in the game Condon reversed
the turnovers and managed to
take the lead from the
Mustangs. Then came the
climax of the game with the
Mustangs winning their first
league game of the season.

were Dave McLachlan with 17

the Biue Devils 52-44 with
Dave McLeod genmg 10 of
them Condor, had 23 personal
fouls to 22 for the Mustangs
and Heppner had 26 turnovers
to Condon's 24
