14-6
The Heppner JVs defeated
the Pilot Rock Rockets in their
first game of the season, 14-6,
Monday night at a game
played at Pilot Rock.
With the first quarter evenly
matched and both teams
suffering from a case of the
first -game jitters, neither
team was able to move the
ball to advantage.
In the second quarter the
Mustangs changed their stra
tagy and scored on a 36 yard
pass play from Allstott to
Burkenbine. Skow ran the ball
for the extra two points and
the Mustangs had an 8-0 lead.
The Mustangs came back
again in the third quarter and
on a similar pass play. Allstott
to McLaughlin, good for 48
yards and another TD. The
point after touchdown failed
and the Mustangs had a 14-0
lead.
The Rockets came back in
the fourth quarter and scored
their lone TD of the game. The
try for extra point failed.
Coach George Koffler said.
"It was a typical first game,
and we made a lot of mistakes,
but the boys tackled well and
really hustled."
The JVs rushed for 212
yards and quarterback All
stott completed 3 out of 7
passes for 125 yards.
The JVs next game is
Tuesday, Sept. 24. when they
meet the Condon Blue Devils
here Game time is 6 p.m.

7-6 win
The Heppner Mustangs
squeaked by Union, 7-6, in
their first game of the season
Friday at Union.
Quarterback Jerry Gentry
scored the lone Mustang TD,
and also accounted for the
extra point in the first quarter
of play to gve the Mustangs
an early 7-0 lead.
In the second quarter Union
came back and scored its only
TD of the game with a 15 yard
pass play, Frank lo Peterson.
The try for extra point failed
and the Mustangs lead by one
point 7-6 ,
The remainder of the game
was a series of trials and
errors for the Mustangs:
mostly errors, as they went to
the air and nothing seemed to
work for them. "Either the
line didn't block, giving the
quarterback time to throw, or
if they did block and the pass
was thrown it was dropped by
the receiver, "said Coach
Chuck Starr. Gentry threw
nine passes for zero comple
tion for the Mustangs.
