Young contestants came from various parts of Oregon and Washington. They were divided into two groups, juniors and the seniors, with girls participating in many of the events. Winners in the top cate gories were Joe Ruda, Keat ing, Ore., who won top honors in the senior boys all-around. Ann Peila, Burns, Ore., won top honors in the senior girls all-around. Ann was also presented the Jody Rugg Memorial Trophy presented by Michele Evans and Jill Rugg. The junior all-around honors went to Jeff Middleton, Walla Walla, Wn. Each of the three winners was presented a saddle blanket by the Morrow County Rodeo Court. Winners of the other events were presented silver buckles by the queen and members of her court. The FFA squad was made up of Sandy and Judy Bennett, Kelwayne and Kristi Hague--od and Rhonda Sargent. Alternates attending were Bill VanSchoiack and Mark Sar gent. In individual showing it was the Sargent family "all the way" as Rhonda and Mark took top honors with their sheep. -In the FFA competition Mark claimed honors for reserve grand champion market Iamb, champion crossbred ewe, grand cham pion senior sheep showmen, and reserve grand champion all-around senior showman. Former Heppner ranger gets forestry post Victor L. Kreimeyer has been named director of the Office of Information for the Pacific Northwest Region of the U.S. Forest Service. Kreimeyer has been in the Office of Information (form erly called Information and Education) for 13 years. He succeeds Jack H. Wood, who , recently retired. The new director moved to Portland in 1961 from Hepp ner, where he was a district ranger on the Umatilla Na tional Forest. He first served as environmental education officer and was later pro moted to assistant chief of I&E. A graduate of Iowa State University, Kreimeyer worked on the Mt. Hood National Forest before and after World War II, in which he served in the Air Force. Pool hours set The Heppner swimming pool hours this year are as follows: Closed Mondays; open Sat urday and Sunday, 12 noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thurs day, 1-4 p.m., public swim ; 4-5 p.m., swim team practice; 6-7 p.m., adult swim, 25 cents charge; 7-9 p.m., public swim. The pool will be closed Friday evenings at 8:30 p.m. and re-open for teen swim from 9-11 p.m., 50 cents charge. Swim team practice began June 11 at 4 p.m. Swimming lessons will start June 25 with sign-up on Monday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or anytime before that date. There will be no sign-ups the day lessons begin. Life-saving will begin the same day at 9 p.m. Anyone interested in the life-saving or water safety instructor course may contact Judy Gentry as soon as possible. Six local golfers participated in the Round-Up Amateur Tournament in Pendleton, Sunday, June 9. Lowell Gribble and Morrie Groves brought home honors for Willow Creek. Congratu lations, gents! Also on Sunday a large group of WC golfers went to Condon for invitational play. Gary Hunt led the pack with an 85 to win low gross and KP. Doug Gunderson captured 2nd low and Francis Doherty netted 3rd. C.C. Carmichael won 1st low net and long drive; Mike Mills and Conley Lanham tied for 2nd low.
