Irrigon votes
wafer bonds
The $14,000 water bond
election May 30 in Irrigon
passed. 41-8.
This will provide funds to
construct at least a 100,000
gallon reservoir, possibly a
larger one. Eleven additional
fire hydiwnts will assure fire
protection to the community,
as well as larger water mains.
A pump house will be con
structed. Irrigon residents were made
aware of the need for munici
pal water system improve
ments on Friday morning.
Early risers had no water
between 5 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.
One of the ailing pumps had
failed to kick back on and the
tank had drained. Mayor
Chester Wilson became aware
of the problem about 6 a.m.
and switched on the standby
pump. Things were running
smoothly again by 7:45.
It is felt by many that with
the agricultural boom in the
area that there will be more
demand for city water, and
already the water pressure is
ofien low when residents are
sprinkling yards. The present
system has reached its ca
pacity, but with the proposed
improvements there will be
room for expansion.
Visiting relatives and
friends in Irrigon over the
Memorial Day weekend were
Jay Berry and Snow McCoy of
Portland and Mr. and Mrs.
Russel McCov of Vancouver.
Wn.
Recent visitors at the Al
Parilow home were Mr. and
Mrs Gene Berg of Vancouver
and Vernon Partlow of Hills

shower at the Assembly of
God parsonage Tuesday eve
ning. Mrs. Perry Pummel
