of William H. Irvin, son of Mr.
and Mrs. G.E. Irvin, Pendle
ton, March 26, at 2 p.m.
The ceremony, held at the
home of the bridegroom's
parents, was attended by
family members. Elder At
wood of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints
read the service.
The Irvin home was deco
rated with yellow and white
carnations. The couple ex
changed vows by a mirror
flanked by candelabra and
yellow and white carnations.
The bride, given in mar
riage by her grandfather, Bud
Bois, wore a long white lace

! The course, Furniture Re-
finishing, taught by Liz Curtis
of Heppner, will again be
taught through Blue Mountain
Community College.
The eight-week course will
begin Thursday, March 28, at
the Lexington School. Hours
for the class are 7 to 10 p.m.
each evening. Cost of the
course is $12.
Class members are to bring
a portable piece of wood
furniture to the class to work
on. Those interested in taking
the course, or who seek
information, are asked to
contact Mrs. Curtis at 676-9454
before March 28.

shoulder-length veil was held
in place by a lace headpiece
with yellow ribbon. She car
ried a nosegay of yellow and
white carnations.
Matron of honor was Vicky
Walden, sister of the bride
groom. She wore a long deep
yellow dress with white ac
cessories and carried a single
white carnation. Her head
piece was baby's breath and
yellow ribbon.
Kenneth Jones, Lexington,
served his cousin as best man.
Mrs. Irvin, mother of the
bridegroom, and Mrs. Bois,
grandmother of the bride,
wore white dresses and yellow
corsages.
A reception followed the
ceremony. The three-tiered
wedding cake with cascading
yellow roses on a green and
white tablecloth centered the
bride's table.
Mrs. Kenneth Jones poured
the coffee; Mrs. Dale Whit
ney, Portland, served punch ;
and Mrs. Stuart Smith,
Hermiston, served the cake.
The bride chose a pink
pantsuit for her going-away
ensemble. After a short wed
ding trip, the couple will
reside in Pendleton.
Out-of-town guests included
Mrs. Victor L. Groshen,
Heppner, cousin of the bride
groom;' Mrs. Florence Mc
Millan, the bridegroom's
grandmother; and Mr. and
Mrs. Charles C. Jones, the
bridegroom's aunt and uncle,
all of Lexington.
The bridegroom's parents
are former Lexington residents.

County School Superinten
dent Ron Daniels was guest
speaker at the Chamber of
Commerce luncheon Monday
and presented his annual
projected budget for the fiscal
year 1974-75 in the amount of
$1,071,178.
"In past years the budget
has increased from 4 to 6 per
cent; however, this year the
increase will be 15.1 per cent,'
said Daniels, "with most of
the increase due to teacher
salaries, materials and the
kindergarten program."
Other reasons for the in
crease in the tax levy are:
-Increase in retirement,
social security and workman's
compensation costs.
-Increase in the cost of
gasoline, heating oil, electric
ity and supplies.
-Increase in salaries for
certificated and classified
staff.
-Increase of students in
North Morrow County.
-Addition of kindergarten
programs and unemployment
insurance.
-Present tax base of $414,
879 is inadequate to operate
schools.
Polling place for qualified
voters will be Heppner Ele
mentary School, lone School
Cafeteria, Lexington District
Office, A.C. Houghton Ele
mentary School and Riverside
High School.
The polling places will be
open 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.,
Tuesday, March 26.
Monica Circle,
James Swanson
to wed in May
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Circle
of Roseburg, Ore. are an
nouncing the engagement of
their daughter, Monica
Elaine, to James Lee Swan
son, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Garland Swanson of lone.
Miss Circle is a 1973 home
economics education graduate
of Oregon State University.
She has recently returned
,from spending six months in
Greece on the International
Farm Youth Exchange
(IFYE) program.
The couple met at OSU
where both were members of
the university marching band.
Swanson graduated from
lone High School in 1969 and
will complete his university
education this month, receiv
ing bachelor of science de
grees in agronomic crop
science and soil science.
A May 18 wedding is
planned at St. Joseph's Catho
lic Church in Roseburg.

visited the public library
Saturday to chat over coffee
with Mildred Searcey, Athena
writer.
Mrs. Searcey autographed
copies of her newest book
"We Remember." She was
accompanied to Heppner by
Ora Knowles, co-chairman of
book sales for the Pendleton
Woman's Club.
Mrs. Searcey met and
visited with Amanda Duvall,
who gave the library-museum
building to Heppner and

St. Patrick's Day was ob
served at Pioneer Memorial
Nursing Home with food trays
decorated with figures of Irish
jiggers, each bearing a pa
tient's name, donated by the
local Blue Bird group.
The 38 figures, made of
shamrocks and crepe paper',
were constructed by the
Mountain Blue Birds at their
March 13 meeting at the home
of their leader, Mrs. Linda
Hager.
The next meeting will be
Thursday, March 28, after
school at the Hager home.
