COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING

What have we to be thankful for? Did the original cele
brators of the feast of Thanksgiving have more cause for grat
itude than we do today?
Their life was demanding. They had to work hard to pro
vide the necessities of life, clothing and food, and to build schools
and places of worship. Yet they set aside a day for joyous
celebration to thank God for the munificence of IfU gifts.
We have come a long way since that first celebration in the
Massachusetts Bay Colony. As one generation gives way to
another, the scientific and technical advances have made us the
bread basket and the supplier of the world. The luxuries of
yesteryear have become the necessities of today.
Wouldn't it be a sound idea for all of us to reflect a bit on
that original scene of Thanksgiving? History is a great teacher,
and a quick flashback to the first Thanksgiving might help us
to rededicate our lives to sound principles, good deeds, human
values, cooperation, peace, prosperity for all mankind.
Let's Be Thankful for our Many Blessings, Forget Our Troubles On This, the Most
American of Holidays
