School board approves
vocational survey
The Morrow County School
Board approved a vocational
survey to be conducted in all
Morrow County high schools
on Nov. 6 7 at the monthly
meeting Monday at the lone
School library.
The survey will be conduc
ted by Garth Davis, regional
vocational coordinator for
Umatilla arid Morrow Coun
ties. A team of six will review
existing programs and will
determine what changes, if
any. are needed. They will
make recommendations to the
board for additional programs
needed to fit student needs.
The board appointed mem
bers to the transportation and
elementary and secondary
curriculm committees.
"The elementary and sec
ondary curriculum committee
will serve as a steering
committee for implementing
plans for meeting high school
graduation requirements,"
explained Ron Daniels, Mor
row County superintendent.
Daniels also told the board
that the three long-range
planning committees have
met. These committees are
studying the population
growth and the need for
additional facilities in the

patient in Pioneer Memorial
Hospital in Heppner.
Mr. and Mrs. John Karran
and son of South Carolina
visited Monday with her
grandmother, Mrs. Florence
McMillan. Mrs. Karran and
son are-remaining in Pendle
ton with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Cool.
Mr. and Mrs. Vern Viall and
children of Milton-Freewater
visited the weekend with her
parents. Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Davidson. Mrs. Vial was
hostess to a coffee hour
honoring her mother. Those
present to visit during the
afternoon were Maureen
Davis. Gladys Van Winkle,
Betty Spaulding and daughter
and Phyllis Piper. Cake and
coffee was served by Mrs.
Vaill.

make a report on Jan. 18.
Joln Edmundson, principal
at lone, received permission
from the board to participate
in a foreign student exchange
program.
The board also approved a
bill that designates supervi
sory and confidential em
ployees for exclusion from
collective bargaining units.
Under the law, Morrow Coun
ty's five principals will be
designated as supervisory
personnel and Morrow County
School district office per
sonnel will be listed as
confidential employees.
The final business of the
evening was the report from
the collective bargaining
meeting held earlier that
night.
The next meeting of the
Morrow County school board
will be Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at
the District Office, Lexington.
At the meeting Supt. Daniels
.will ask the board to make
kindergarten a part of the
1974-75 school program.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Wright of
Woodburn Estates returned
home Sunday after spending a
few days at the Pat Wright
home, and visiting their son
Harvey, who is a patient in
Pioneer Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. A.F. Majeske who had
been visiting her daughter and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Mounts, in Portland returned
home with them to Heppner.

Oct. 29 is the last day for
nominating the 1974 com
munity committee members
of Agriculture Stagnation
and Conservation Service in
Morrow County.
Morrow County residents
who own or operate a farming
operation are eligible to run
for a committee position from
one of the four communities
The communities include: A,
Irrigon and Boardman; B,
Alpine and Morgan; C, lone,
Lexington, North Heppner;
and D, Eightmile and South
Heppner.
A candidate for the position
needs to send In a nominating
petition with three signatures
to the ASCS office. In Novem
ber a list of six nominees In
each community will be sent
to all registered voters in the
county. Voters include com
munity residents who have an
interest in a farm operation
and are eligible to compete in
major farm programs.
In December three com
mitteemen and two alternates
from each of the four com
munities w ill . be selected.
These new members will then
select a county committee
consisting of one member
serving a three-year term and
two alternates serving a
one-year term.
The community committee
assists the county committee
in carrying out federal and
farm programs in Morrow
County. The county commit
tee administers programs
such as price support on
eligible commodities, wheat
allotments, feed grain pro
gram, farm storage loan
program, production control
payments, and wool incentive
programs. In addition, the
county members are respon
sible for the Agriculture
Stablization and Conservation
Service in. Morrow County.

sion in Irrigon. Oct. 9.
City Engineer Val Toronto
received endorsement to pro
ceed with design of second
well and 200,000 gallon storage
reservoir.
Letters from the 1 State
Board of Health approved the
engineer's plans for construc
tion of water lines for service
to the mobile home park which
Ted and Mary Wilson plan to
develop. Council approval was
given lo begin the project.
A resolution was adopted to
accept access streets into the
Mobile Home Park which the
Wilsons offered to dedicate to
the city. Some of these were
formerly streets or parts of
streets that were once dedi
cated and later vacated. The
move will avoid the necessity
of securing easements.
