Boardman City flail is that
starting Oct. 1 garbage will be
picked up Thursday instead of
Saturday. Following the Sept.
29 pickup the next one will be
Thursday, Oct. 4. '
Winners in the ladies cham
pionshlp at Willow Run Golf
Club Sunday were: Emma
Docken, champion; low net,
group one, Dorthy Kennedy;
group two, Connie Clough. In
the men's championship Ron
Daniels was winner, and Jim
Harper and Carroll Donovan
tied for low net.
Men's sweepstakes winners
were: John Paradiso, first; tie
between Delbert Ball and Ron
Duniels for second. Closest to
pin on No. 17 was Jim Harper
and on No. 18 Carroll Dono
van. Wednesday of last week the
ladies hosted Echo and Hepp
ncr. Winners from Echo were:
a tie for low gross between
Lois Neyt and Holly Kletzer;

The Boardman Garden Club
met at the home of Mrs. M.I.
Oveson Monday night of last
week with Mrs. Frank Marlow
co-hostess. Roll call was
answered by naming a flower
ing tree.
Mrs. Roy Ball opened the
meeting by reading "Dwadel
ings by Donna," taken from
Oregon Newsletter.
The club voted to again
sponsor the Bluebird group
this year.
Hazel Carpenter was in
charge of the program and
had two poems read, "The
Little Shack On the Prairie,"
written by Edith Boose of
Vulcan, Alta., and "The Night
Before Friday."
Mrs. Ball and Mrs. Walter
Hayes won prizes in a game,
and Mrs. Ball also received
the door prize.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Hazel Miller, Oct.
15, 8 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Stan Rauch
are parents of a daughter,
Jennifer Suzann, born Sept. 19
at the Good Shepherd Hospital
in Hermiston. Grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rauch
of Lexington and Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Baker of Heppner.

Kent, Wn., former resident
here, is visiting at the home of

Oregon Pelleting Plant will be
on agenda as Heppner-Mor-row
Chamber of Commerce
travels to Boardman, Satur
day. Sept. 29.
the tour will depart from
the extension office at 9 a.m.
and will arrive at Desert
Magic Potato Plant at 10
o'clock. Visitors will view the
potato plant and farm plots of
"double crop operations."
At the Eastern Oregon
Farms Pelleting Plant, guides
will show how corn and
alfalfa are made into pellets.

Kartchner, president of Des
ert Magic Farms, will con
duce the tour at a 1 p.m.
luncheon at Boardman '
Dodge City Inn Restaurant
Harold Kerr is in charge of
the tour. A chartered bus will
be used to transport those who
wish to use it. Those using
private cars should arrange to
arrive in Boardman at 10
o'clock to join the group. The
luncheon is a no-host affair,
Kerr said, and any inter
ested person in the county is
invited to go on the tour.
Last rites for
C. R.Lott
in Mississippi
Randy Lott was called to
Hattiesburg, Miss., this week
due to the death of his father,
C.R. Lott, 73.
Besides Randy he is sur
vived by his wife, Edna, two
sons and a daughter, all of
Mississippi; Ethel McGee of
Seattle; and numerous grand
children. Funeral services were held
last Tuesday.
Mr. Lott had been ill for
some time and his son. Rand,
had visited him last April.
Services today
for Mrs. Becket
Funeral services for Mrs.
Alma B. Wehmeyer Becket,
Portland, will be held Thurs
day, Sept. 27, at Ross Holly
wood Chapel in Portland, at 1
p.m. Interment will be in Rose
City Cemetery.
She was the wife of William
Becket, and both were form
erly of Heppner.
GENE HELIKER
PLAYING IN STATE
Gene Heliker will open with
the night club act, Rick
Harris, Candy and Mr. D.," at
Portland's Ramada Inn on
Oct. 1.
The group leaves Calgary on
Sept. 29 after a successful
appearance there.
Gene is choreographer for
the group and plays lead
guitar, coronet, trombone and
sings. He always enjoys visi
ting with folks from home.
Gene is the son of Don Heliker,
lone, and Barbara Cutsforth,
Heppner.
This booking runs through
Oct. 20 is probably the
only Oregon appearance of the
group for some time.

man, Sara and Cindy, went to
Portland Wednesday for
medical care for Rita and
Sara. They were guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Bowman. Sara
remained in Portland where
she will be starting school at
Portland Community College.
Mrs. Jerry Samples, Dianne
and Andy, went to Heppner
Thursday evening where they
were overnight guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Mark Samples.
Friday, Irene and the children
went to Pendleton where
Dianne and Andy kept dental
appointments.
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Luper
held a birthday dinner at their
home Friday night for their
daughter, Marci who was 8.
Hot dogs, potato salad and
punch were served with Marci
opening her gifts after dinner.
Birthday cake and ice cream
were enjoyed by the children.

Doubledeck Card Club was
held Friday evening at the

second high and pinochle. The

Slinkard. Others playing were
Marilyn Bailey, Betty Sadd
ler, Virginia Kelso and Hallie
Spivey.
The Kinzua Mountaineers
held a square dance Saturday
night at the Camp Five
Community Hall with Darrel
Wilson of lone as caller.
