to more nearly cover the
actual cost of the work. The
new rate will be either $20 or
$Hi for residences, depending
on Ihe telephone equipment
already in the residence and
the work done on the prem
ises. New rates for business
will Ik? $35. Refore the
increase the charges were $15
for residence and $.10 for
business
The Public Utility Commis
sioner directed Pacific North
west Hell to provide a four
month payment plan on instal
lation charges for those cus
tomers who would prefer not
to pay all of the charges with
their first bill.
PNR was also directed to
proceed w ith a year-long trial
of low priied Iwoparty resi
dence telephone service in
Springfield and in the office
serving about 32,(XX) cus
tomers in Northeast Portland.
The trial will begin this fall in
Springfield, and early next
year in Portland. The service
will cost $3.95 per month. A
maximum of 10 outgoing local
calls are allowed, with a 10
cent charge for each addition
al local call. There will be no
limit on incoming calls.
Some of the other rates
approved include:
- Non published 'telephone
numbers will cost .10 cents per
moith beginning Sunday,
Sept. 9. The telephone com
pany will also offer a new
"nor -listed" telephone service
which cost 50 cents per month.

return to Heppner, Mr. and
Mrs. Roscoe Buckner, St.
Louis, Mo., paid her a visit,
and left for the coast Aug. 13.
