.If the shortage of gasoline is
as serious as it appears to be, it
is likely to be the result of
increased demand rather than a
drop in production. Three areas
of use are putting the pressure
on supply.
(1) An estimated increase in
the number of vehicles put on
the road of five million per year.
Many of them are campers and
trailers that require almost
twice as much gas as a small
car.
(2) The increase in the number
of three day holidays invites
people to put their campers on
the road for longer trips and
more time and they do just that.
(3) The growing demand for
fuel oil is in competition with
the demand for gasoline.
If the government intends to
regulate the oil industry we are
starting late and poorly
informed.
