SCHOOL BOARD
Continued from page 1
Field Trips
Dennis Toney, Lynda Slusher
and Hilda Yocom appeared to
answer any questions the board
might have in relation to two
proposed field trips from
Heppner High.
Approved was a special field
trip to Portland on April 6-8 for
Mr. Toney, advisor and five
students to attend the National
Scholastic Press Association
and the Journalism Education
Association Conference at the
Portland Hilton. Estimated cost
of the planned trip is $30. and a
school car will be needed. There
was a question about so few
going. Mr. Toney indicated the
editors for this year and next
would be making the trip.
Sixteen states are included in
the Ass'n. and this is the first
time it has been held in Oregon.
The directors also approved a
350 mile trip to Corvillis for the
20 girls of the dance team to
attend competition April 6-7-8.
Costs for the trip include gas
and meals for the bus driver.
Questioned were the sleeping
arangements. Mrs. Slusher ex
plained that the girls would be
sleeping in their sleeping bags
on the gym floor. Mr. Rauch
noted he had had the oppor
tunity to observe a crack drill
team from Boise High Scoot. He
said, "I was impressed."
Mary Langston, foreign lang
uage instructor at lone request
ed a special field trip to
Willamette University on April
3 for 9 students and two
chaperones. The group will see
a touring French production
and have dinner in a French
restaurant afterward.
Principal Don Cole reviewed
the plans for a sixth grade week
long outdoor school this spring.
It will be held at Tupper Work
Center May 7-11. Sessions will
be held on water, geology, soil.
