Portland In the Sheraton. Those
who went are: Mr. and Mrs.
Milton Morgan, Mr. and Mrs.
Kenneth Smouse, Mr. and Mrs.
Fredrick Msrtin. Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Crum and Mr. and Mr.
Norman Nelson.
Mm. Larry Prock gave a
birthday party for her father at
her place Wednesday.
Shower
Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen and
Mrs. Ray Heimbigner went to
Richland for the bridal shower
of Vickie Ninkle. Vickie flinkle
is the future bride of Tom
Heimbigner.

On Saturday Mr. and Mrs.
Leo Crabtree took Mrs. Crab
tree's mother Mrs Blanche
Sceelar to Salem. She had spent
the last two weeks visiting with
the Crabtrees. While there they
visited Mrs. Crabtree's brother,
Mr. and Mrs. Don Sceelar. On
the way home they visited In
Portland with Mr. and Mrs.
E.E.Myers.
On Sunday afternoon Mr.
Crabtree was installing officer
at Fairview Lodge Number 92
'Troutdale Masonic Lodge. Mr.
Myers a long time friend of the
Crabtrees was installed as
Worshipful Master. They re
turned home Sunday evening.

The lone annual Christmas
musical will be presented Dec.
21 at 7 p.m. in the school. The
Christmas Fantasy will be
directed by Sherrie Bahr and
Becky Frazier will be accom
panist. Among the numbers the High
School band and choir are doing
is "The Noel Suite". Favorites
of the Junior High Band and
choir are "Sing Noel" and
"White Christmas".
The 5th and 6th grade choir
will sing "Christ Is Born The
Holy Child" and "The Gift of
Love".
The 6th grade band will play
three numbers and their favor
ite is "Jingle Bells".
The students of the first
through sixth grade will present
the play "The Windows of
Christmas".
Rietmann out to dinner. The
occasion was Mrs. Vera Riet
mann's birthday.
Joe Rietmann celebrated his
15th birthday at his home.
Dinner guests were his grand
parents Mr. and Mrs. Delbert
Anson and Mr. and Mrs. Terry
Thornburg. Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Rietmann hosted the dinner.
LaGrande and Pilot Rock
have been added to BMCC's
Adult General Education
Centers. The program provides
educational opportunities to
anyone over 16 years old who
has not completed high school.
A total of 194 students
between 16 and 60 years old are
currently enrolled in the seven
centers. Other centers are on
BMCC campus, Umatilla Indian
Reservation, Hermiston,
Millon-Freewaterand Heppner.
Anne Doherty is the instructor
in Heppner.
The program includes Adult
Basic Education, General
Vircinia
in Michigan
Virginia Whitaker has re
turned from a week long
business trip to Grand Rapids,
Mich. She was there along with
300 other Nutralite distributors,
attending meetings sponsored
by the Amway Co. which is
merging with Nutralite. The
distributors were guests of the
Amway Co. While there, she
gave out letters about Robyn
Petrik's plight to all the other
Nutralite people, and she is
happy to report that she is
already getting responses from
people all over the U.S.
Education Development, Adult
High School Diploma program
and refresher courses.
Adult Basic Education
stresses studying of main skills
in materials generally below
the eighth grade level. The GED
program is designed to prepare
students to pass the General
Educational Development testa
in order to receive the GED
certificate. The Adult High
School Diploma allows adults to
satisfy the 19 credits required in
Oregon of all high school
graduates,
Students taking refresher
courses are categorized as
special students. They gen
erally seek refresher help in one
or more areas of the basic
skills.
Persons interested in any of
the programs are encouraged to

Center, Pioneer Hall at BMCC,

Morrow County
First Graders
Receive
American Flags
The Lions Clubs of Morrow
County, Boardman, Irrignn and
lone have presented all the first
grader in the county with a
small American flag and
holder.
Ray Boyce, president of the
lone Lions Club and Bill Siewert
presented the flags to the three
first grades at Heppner. Mr.
Boyce explained their program
was to help the youngsters
understand and appreciate
Americanism. "The American
ideals of freedom, justice,
rights and opportunity are the
opposite of hatred, bigotry and
intolerance. It is the creed that
emphasizes justice, fair play,
decency and progress in human
endeavors. It puts a great
premium on the virtues of
loyalty, hardwork and understanding."

Progressive Dinner Successful
Willows
Grange Meets
Saturday
Willows Grange will meet
Dec. 16 to enjoy a turkey supper
at 6:30p.m. Salads and desserts
will be potluck. Santa Claus will
be there.
Grange meeting will be held
at 8 p.m.
WAC of Willows Grange will be
held Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at Dot
Halvorsens'. There will be an
exchange of gifts.
Former lone
Teacher Passes
Mrs. Harriet I. Hall who
taught grade school in lone for
many years, passed on Nov.
17th at Anaheim, Calif. She was
a native of South Dakota and
was educated there and at
Oregon College of Education,
Monmouth, Ore. She traveled in
the U.S. and abroad and had
many interests, including
public affairs and as a member
of the League of Women Voters
and left her extensive personal
library to the Anaheim Public
Library.
She had enjoyed teaching and
living in lone and kept up her
subscription to the Gazette
Times to keep in touch. She is
survived by two daughters,
Mrs. Gale D. Smith, Anaheim,
and Mrs. Robert O. Payne, New
York City, and by three grand
children. She was preceded in
death by her husband, John W.
Hall.
The Jaycee's Progressive
Dinner started at the Clyde
Allstott's with hot mulled cider
and progressed to Archie Ball,
Jr. for hors d'oeuvres. A
delicious soup was served at
Jerry Hollomon's and everyone
enjoyed the main course at Ed
Struthers' home. There was
ham, baked potatoes, peas and
hot rolls, which constituted a
luscious meal. Dessert was
apple pie and cherries jubilee at
Marv Gerking's. Then the party
returned to Clyde Allstott's
"here everyone sang Christmas
carols and exchanged gifts.
There were about 13 couples
present and all had a wonderful
time.

increased by one Dec. 12. Mr.
and Mrs. David Morgan, lone
became the parents of their
first child, a girl, born at
Pioneer Memorial Hospital. She
was named Belinda Suzette and
weighed 6 lb., 4i oz.
Grandparents include Mrs. Vi
Granger, lone and Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Soehl, Lay Center, Wa.
Julia Cooper of McLean, Tex. is
her Great-grandmother.

CHOIR will sing Christmas
Carols at the Nursing Home on
Thursday of this week.

will hold their meeting today
(Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Gar
Swanson's home at lone.

League Game
In their first League game,
the MCGG basketball team won
over Hansell Hogs last Wednes
day 68 to 51. John McCabe was
high with 24 and Del LaRue had
14.
On Sunday, MCGG met The
Office at lone for their second
League game. Both teams did
lots of running trying to get into
shape. MCGG won 101 to 34. Lee
Padberg had 25, Del LaRue 24,
Frank Halvorsen 24, Gordon
Meyers 14 and Marvin Padberg
14.
Frank Halvorsen received
quite a gash Over his eye. He
insisted in playing the rest of
the game.
