accountants how to expedite
returns.
Everything was planned for
them. Cars met them at the
airport and took them to their

City to tour the Mormon
Tabernacle, a tour of the city.

Saturday morning when that
sun finally came out, I said
"Aha.... lone 's prayers have
been answered" and it was their
day....ALL DAY!
With the paper coming out
early I kinda listened to the
Oregon State game as I worked
Saturday afternoon, planning to
hit the last half of the
Ione-Huntington game. The
lone game went faster than the
college game and I only got to
see the last quarter.
The sidelines were loaded and
lone could hardly contain them
selves. Saw some friends from
Pilot Rock who had come over
for the game. IT WAS EXCIT
ING. Then came the final gun.
The Crimson clad players
swarmed on the field. Helmets
were thrown in the air. ...then
we could see a clipboard, an

arm and finally the body. ..the
Cardinals carried Coach Gor
don Meyers on their shoulders
off the field. They looked like
Alabama's famed "Crimson
Tide" as they came across the
field and no way was I going to
get in front of them. Im not
anxious to get another broken
bone while I'm still recovering
from my last one.
The passage way was too
narrow when they got to the
swimming pool so they slowed
down.
I got them to hold just
a minute so I could get a
picture. Arnold's having me try
out some new film that's
supposed to take better pictures
but it isn't as fast as I've been
using. Anyway by now I was so
excited I don't know what I got
but I sure hope so.
Fast Work
At 25 til five, six lone football
enthusiasts pulled out of Gordon
Meyers driveway to go scout the
Alsea Prospect game at Cor-
vallis.
. The game had
started before they got into
Parker Stadium and Alsea had
already scored twice so they
pretty well knew which team to
watch.
They came home that night
and arrived back in lone about
3:30 Sunday morning.
Alsea scouted the Ione
Huntington game but they were
scouting Huntington.
Going to Corvallis were
Lindsay Kincaid, Louis
Buschke, Gordon Meyers, Del
LaRue, Mike Matthews and
Clint Krebs. Clint had come up
for the big game and caught a
ride with them back to school.
At Atlanta
Lat year when we went to
Huntsville, Alabama to visit our
son, Don and Sylvia, we went on
to Atlanta. We saw for the third
time "Gone With The Wind"
and had supper one evening at
"Pitty Pat s Porch". I ordered
the dish served in individual
iron skillets because I'd get to
keep the skillet.
So like eating at Pitty Pat's
Porch, the guests at the supper
we gave honoring Arnold and
Valerie Friday evening took
home their green or red
cassaroles that I'd baked the
chicken pot pie in. It was kind of
a wolf in sheeps clothing
because I topped them with a
cutout turkey. For dessert we
had Arnold's favorite, carrot
cake and lemon pie. I used that
carrot cake recipe of Bobbe
Driscolls....and it was good. I'm
going to try it again soon.
another good time.
Fur Arnold and Valerie
Arnold and Valerie were
honored at a supper at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heard
Friday eveninR. Guests were
