Give a hand, banish loneliness
& malnutrition
We are told that loneliness and n.ainutntion are deadls twin
torrtients of the aeed Dr Herbert Seitzer director of one of
America's largest institutions for the aed. Daughters of Jacob
Ger.atric Center, says. ""The elder! person living alone, male
or fen.aie. rich or poor, faces both ionekness and n.ainutntion
ur.iess he consciously does sometrang about went with
d-.'ternntta'.ion and visor".
He encourages one senior citizen to seek out anotner one to
share meals, so as to assure them of cookihc at least one weii
tw.anced. nourishing hot meal a day Snaring n.eais couid tie on
an exchange basis
Ht urges tnose eating alone, or with someone, to make a
ceremony of the meal, set a tableclotn. sw itch on some music,
put candies on the table, have a littie wine
The Heppner Neighborhood Center can be congratulated upon
dome something about the loneliness and n.ainutntion of out
Senior Citizens." Meais will be prepared and served at tne
Heprner elementary School Cateterta each Wednesday
afternoon at 5 o clock This will banisn both loneliness and
n.ainutntion.
.Any oldsters who need transportation are asked to call the
Heppner Neighborhood Center
Trie Neighborhood Center is anxious for volunteers who will
provide transportation to and from tne supper, as well as
volunteers to help Verna Bnnda with the preparation and
serving of tne weekly meal.
As tne program catches on. we'll venture a guess that the
oldsters will look forw ard to that Wednesday supper out.
