Park Tour
atAt-F
July 10th four member
of the lone Garden Club ac
cepted an Invitation from tlx
Pendleton Dirt Dabbltr to
accompany them on a tour
of Mirle Dorian Park In
Milton-Freewater. Mrs. Wal
lace Wolff, Mr. Van Hub
bard, Mr. Lm Pettyjohn
and Mrs. James Driscoll had
a very pleasant day. The
Pendleton member all
gathered at the home of their
president, Merldene Harri
son, and were Joined at tlx
entrance to the park by mem
ber of the Milton-Freewater
Garden Club. There were 35
Garden Club members pres
ent, and the tour was led by
Fred Etling, a retired teach
er. The Park Is quite new, but
has 76 concrete steps up the
side of the hill - all of
these steps have printed on
them the names of a pioneer
family that settled in the
Milton-Freewater area. The
first two steps have Marie
Dorian and her husband,
Pierre Dorian, on them.
Another 20 steps are being
readied for more names, and
at the top of the bill Is a
memorial monument. Trails
in the park were marked
with the different flora of the
area, and our guide said it
was nrjch prettier about a
month ago when most of the
wild flowers were in bloom.
One of the park attractions
was a rare Dinko tree. They
hope to have water available
soon, as then much more
can be done toward beautifi
cation. Following the tour of the
park, the members of the
garden clubs were guests at
the country home of Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. G. Bade, Milton
Freewater. We bad a salad
luncheon in the garden, and
Mr. Bates showed us around
the estate answering all our
questions about the many
trees and plants In the beau
tiful yard.
