The council entered Into an
agreement with the ISoardman
Rural Fire District for the city
to furnish them hoiwini for
their truck anil man power for
the equipment.

Board Member Elected
Three different election were
held In Boardman Monday of
last week. Hazel Miller was re
elected to the Iniard of the
Boardman Cemetery Mainten
ance District for a three year
term with a total of 37 vote.
Only 38 votes were caul at the
election.
Harold Baker with 31 votes
and Arthur Allen with 20 were
elected to the Boardman Park
ai.d Kecrention hoard for three
year terms. The third candidate
was Joe Tatone, who received
1! votes.
Charles Acock was reelected
to the Boardman Hural Fire Din-
rit-t board for a term of five
years. He received II voles.
Lights Going Up
"LiKht Up Boardman for
Christmas" Is the slogan of the
Boardman Tillicum Club, which
Is sponsoring the local lihtinj?
contest. In the past a few of
the homes in town have been
decorated for the holiday sea
son, but this year the club hopes
everyone will participate. Lola
reterson, club president, says
there has been a good response
to the program from the busi
ness firms. A plaque will Iks
presented to the winning firm.
Also, as part of the lighting ac
tivity, art students from River
slde High School have been
busy the past week painting
Christmas scenes on the win
dows of the business firms.
There will be first, second and
third prizes for winners of this
part of the contest.
Boardman's residential district
also participates in the Greater
Hermiston Chamber of Com
merce lighting contest.
Preliminary Plan Approved
The Boardman Thinning Com
mission voted approval last
week of the preliminary com
prehensive plan for Boardman
that was presented in a public
hearing Nov, 17.
The plan has been developed
by the firm of Cornell, Howland,
Hayes, Merryfield and Hill. The
proposal may be on the agenda
of the January city council
meeting.
In other action tho commis
sion approved the application of
W. E. Nelson, contractor, to
build a two story office build
ing and the second half of 11
units of the apartments on
north Main Street. The first 11
units have Just been completed.
Booster Club Organised
A Booster Club composed of
the adults In the Boardman and
Irrigon communities is being or
ganized to support Riverside
High School at Boardman. Har
old Baker of Boardman Is head
ing the move, and others on the
committee are Don Hendrix and
Mrs. Stan Henkle of Boardman,
and John Mathews and Fred
Frederickson of Irrigon.
The club will support athlet
ics and other school activities.
Pirate jackets are being ordered
lor club members.
Mrs. Lois Peterson, president
of the Boardman Tillicum Club,
announces that Dec. 26 if the
deadline for any girl wishing
to try out for the rodeo princess
for next year. Rules will be at
Riverside High School and any
one wishing additional informa
tion may call the school or con
tact Mrs. Peterson at 481-4545.
Contestants must be a resi
dent of Morrow County, at least
a Junior In high school and 16
years old.

ACT OF 1971 provides real benefits for car
and truck buyers. Here are the provisions
of the law with respect to motor vehicle
excise taxes and what they mean to Ford
Car and Truck Buyers:
1. The 10 Excise Tax on certain light-duty trucks Is
repealed. This means reductions in the manufacturer's
suggested list price of more than $195 on Ford
pickups, $209 on Econoline Van s, and $125 on
Rancheros.
2. The 1 Excise Tax on passenger cars is repealed.
This means reductions In the manufacturer's
suggested list price of more than $107 on Pintos
(more on other series cars) and at least $191 on
Bronco Wagons, and $183 on 8-passenger club
wagons. j
