A LoTtiy Legacy
In citing down all the fam
ily slorh's, tlie racksiage anec
dales, and her recollictlona of
pirilual struggle. Helen Hayes
lias produced a legacy for all
f us. After years of unwilling-
iuss to discuss tier private
world which even her best-
selling book "A Gift of Joy" did
imt do she has looked bevond
her legend and directly at Life's
lessons as she was forced to
learn them. Deeply moving and
affivtlonalely willy, her story
U an affirmation of the faith
that first gave it Impetus.
The book Is dedicated to
Charlie and Mary, past and fu
ture. At the close of the dedi
cation she includes these
thoughts. "Cast by the fates as
Helen Hayes, I have played the
part for all its worth . . . We
play many parts in this world
and I want you to know them
all for together they make the
whole. Trials and errors, hits
and misses, i have enjoyed my
life. And so in highlights and
shadows, bits and pieces, In re
calling moments, scenes and
acts of folly all chiaroscuro
and confetti this is what it
was like to be me, all the me's
what it was like to live in such
exciting times and know so
many of the men and women
who made it so."
A goodly percentage of Book
worms are now grandmothers
and some of them heard these
lines for the first time:
What are little grandchildren
made of?
Some good and some bad from
Mother and Dad
And laughs and walla and
Grandmothers tales.
Mrs. Smith used the paper
back edition of this book. It was
put out by Fawcett Crest Books
and is a 1969 printing.

'I've been a member of
Wranglers 35 years and I've
never won the Jackpot before",
were the words of Dimple Munk
ers when she got the Christmas
party Jackpot. Then as she start
ed stuffing her dimes in her bill
fold came the low voice from
the back row that laid us all
in the aisle, "How much did we
get, dear?"
Santa Claus came in such a
clatter that he scared some of
the small fry. The tree was
loaded with all kinds of pres
ents for the toddlers to the
grandpas. It was really a fun
party.

Another little bit on- our
Thanksgiving trip. We went on
to Atlanta as we had never;
seen that town. It is a beautiful
and big. As was fitting, we
went to "Gone With the Wind",
our last evening there. The eve

Porch". If you remember in the
movie Scarlet visited Aunt Pitty
Pat when she went to Atlanta.
The porch is on three sides
of this big room then you go
downstairs to eat. While you're
waiting, you sit in rocking
chairs and fan yourself. The fan
